A French politician from Marine Le Pen’s extreme right party “Rassemblement National” – formerly the Front National – has published a video of himself in front of a Roma camp claiming success in his fight so that at long last “Marseilles finally becomes Marseille again”.
Other news are more usual. A camp closed and a few families re-housed in Champs-sur-Marne near Paris; the fate of squatters in Melun-Vaux-le-Pénil will be fixed this week; a family of Roma is housed in a temporary housing site in the North; and in Toulouse, the city ponders what to do after having evacuated a camp.

The usual lot of news in France this week: A few Roma near Paris were re-lodged in social housing, while in another suburb, the authorities walled an abandoned house for fear it could be squatted. In the North, a camp has not been growing, meaning that the future insertion centre will not need to grow either. Also in the North, a camp was set on fire and its residents lodged a complaint with the police. In the Western part of the country, a camp in La Riche will be closed before the winter. Also in the Western part of the country, some Roma will be re-lodged. In Saint Etienne, in the centre, three Roma men who had broken into an abandoned house and were arrested were relaxed. In Grenoble, Roma who were the victims of a criminal fire are being relodged in a sport centre, while others were expulsed from a squat. In Marseilles, a squat will be closed, and people will not be re-lodged. In Montpellier, French Gitans are protesting against a fure camp for Roma.
