The German Central Council of Sinti and Roma sees itself proven right in having stated that the children movie “Nelly’s Adventures” is actually racist and present a stereotyped view of Roma.

Three Bulgarian Roma have been condemned to heavy prison sentences for the murder of another Rom in the North of France. According to the police, the fight arose over the control of the “lucrative” begging in the region.
This is bad, first because begging has never really been a criminal activity, much less a lucrative one. So here, the stereotypes of the Roma begging criminal rings is in full swing.

Paris, Marseilles and Bordeaux in the news, little from the North this week. In Paris, the camp on the tracks of the petite ceinture train will be close (once again), dislodging several hundred people; in the Suburbs, in Villeneuve St. Georges, a clean-up and an anti-racism action; in Marseille, still no respite, with one evacuation in La Parette and in la Pauline, all the while with the church stating they would like to see a decent solution to the issues with Roma; in Bordeaux, the city wants to integrate Roma; in the North, probably for lack of Roma the travellers do the headline; and finally, an article about the winter respite that should already be in place in France.

The television children movie called “Nellie’s Adventures” in the German TV is getting a lot of critique for its representation of Sinti and Roma, which, to say the least are presented in a stereotypical fashion: They are petty criminals, con men, or beggars.
The Central Council of Sinti and Roma calls it racist and they are right.

Many expulsions in France this last week, just before the usual winter pause. This week we start in Marseilles, where 200 Roma were expulsed, where 50 Roma children are at risk, and where 150 Roma occupied empty offices before leaving peacefully.
In Western France, in Normandy, several Roma who attacked another camp are in front of the justice; in Bordeaux, the city wants to create sites for Roma; in Indres, Roma travellers who were expulsed are still blocked while two other expulsions were carried out; in Nantes, 200 Roma found a place to squat on an industrial site; in the Centre of France, in St. Etienne, Roma who were expulsed have still not found new lodgings; and in Lyon, the largest squat was closed.
In the North, in Lille, a camp was dismantled; and another one was closed in spite of the winter pause on expulsions; in Haubourdin, a family was re-lodged; in Maubeuge, two families found another housing. Important, in the North, the winter pause on expulsion will also be applied to shantytowns.
In Paris and its surroundings, the petite ceinture camp will be closed for the umpteenth time; and in Argenteuil, a camp was closed.

The president of YUROM from Nis, Osman Balić, is commenting on issues faced by Roma. His view is that the two biggest problems for Roma are on the one hand Roma themselves to the point where we do not need enemies and that the other main issue is growing neo-Fascism, which somehow found a home in Eastern Europe, and now even in the West. These are the two ends of the Roma problem according to him. In between there are many tiny problems, but they are negligible in comparison with these two issues.
