The Castle does not want to publish the specific names of the awardees until the ceremonyAccording to information from Lidové noviny, singer and guitarist Vladimír Mišík or Romani singer Ida Kelarová could be the next awardees.

Ida Kelarovà would thus be the third person of Romani origin and the first Romni to receive this distinction.

This Roma procession was promoted by, among others, Isztwan Kwik, musician and leader of the band Sare Roma – a multi-generational band whose over 70-year history was highlighted by Honorata Adamowicz in the article “Three generations of Sare Roma. The big autumn concert of the Svi UGLAS choir will be held on September 23. at 6 p.m. in the Great Hall of the Youth Center in Belgrade.

The SVI UGLAS choir is not quite an ordinary choir. It gathers Roma children and young people, as well as all other people who want to learn about Roma culture and get to know the Roma community through music. The choir was started in 2016 by the association Art Aparat headed by Maja Ćurčić, a music teacher and composer from Belgrade, and so far over 400 participants of all ages have sung in it.

Adriana Dráfiová alias Gitáná, became famous years ago in the Talentmánia talent competition. Since then, she has collaborated with famous names of the contemporary music scene, such as Jan Bendig, or the Slovak rapper Kali. In the past, she sang for, for example, Tina Turner, David Copperfield or top model Claudia Schiffer. She says that “I think I was able to break through in different genres and styles, that’s why my music appealed to the majority. Moreover, my Romanes is perceived as a completely different language. One of my songs is played at non-Roma events, on the radio, and I’m really proud that it caught on. People in it do not know the Romani language at all, and I am happy that with this form of Romani I can bring both cultures closer together.”

However, she admits that her best and favourite language is Hungarian.

Festival dedicated to Šaban Bajramović

Šaban Bajramović (1936–2008), inspired many with his songs and rich creativity. The artist, who composed more than 700 songs, 20 albums and about fifty singles during his lifetime, is an inspiration to many musicians. In order to revive the memory of the legendary singer, the Association “Veseli Romi” from Niš organized, apart from that city, which is Bajramović’s birthplace, the first festival dedicated to Šaban in Belgrade as well.

On August 8, the International Roma Song Day will be held for the second time. The organizer of the initiative is Mihály “Mazsi” Rostás, who, in addition to active musicianship (Romengo, MazsiMó–GipsyMó), is the artistic manager of the formations of Mónika Lakatos, winner of the Kossuth Prize and Womex Lifetime Achievement Award. A well-known representative of gypsy music told our newspaper that the idea of a day related to Roma musical culture came to mind already in 2008, on the occasion of Hungarian Song Day, but the idea turned into action the previous year.

In addition to several Hungarian locations, the event will also be held in Parkany, Slovakia, and in Krakow, Poland.

The international Roma festival Amaro Fest – open air gipsy festival offers musical, singing and dancing performances by local and foreign performers. This year’s seventh edition is taking place on July 22 and 23 in the Nitra amphitheatre.
