Summer School

How a 19 year old future teacher organised a summer camp in Slovakia for Roma children. And the camp is full – for, as she says, Roma children want to learn.
Well done!

School and Slovakia

Published by:

A typical story for Slovakia. The government plenipotentiary for Roma affairs, Abel Ravasz, is trying to mediate an issue of bullying of Roma in a school and a de-facto attempt at school segregation. Bullying against Roma children happened in Demandice, a village where Roma from two neighbouring communes are attending school in. The local council has decided to exclude Lontov and Ipeľský Sokolec from their school district, meaning that the mostly Roma pupils from these municipalities are allowed to attend a school in Demandice, but will not have the travel expenses paid. This is a de-facto exclusion of the Roma as they depend on this stipend.

Serbia: Spot the Issue?

Published by:

Do you spot the issue? Two parties in schoolyards in Serbia. In the first scantily clad go-go dancers, in the second, a Roma wedding.
Against which were protests logged? Clearly against the “depravation” of a Gypsy Wedding.

Czech Republic and Memorial

The planned opening of a memorial to the Roma victims of the Holocaust in Hodonin, on the site of a former concentration camp, has been delayed indefinitely. This is the result of a possible transfer of ownership of the memorial and exhibition from the Education Ministry to the Government Council for Roma Minority Affairs.
Well, seems that the Czech prefer not to dwell too much on the fact that they killed nearly all Roma in the country during World War Two.

New Hungarian Laws and Rroma

Published by:

The current laws targeting NGOs and the CEU in Hungary are a danger to the Rroma inclusion in Hungary. Several NGOs working for Rroma, the Roma Education Fund, the European Roma Right Centre, etc. are directly funded by Soros and would need to be labelled “foreign agents” as per the new law. Slovakia and Rroma

Published by:

The Slovak politician Matovič wants to solve Roma problems in his country. His OĽANO Movement therefore submitted a bill for the next parliamentary meeting so that Roma children are required to attend pre-school for three years. He added, that if parents did not comply, they would commit a criminal offense. This latter point is maybe not the best idea…
In addition, he said: “80 years ago, Adolf Hitler showed his finger first to the Jews, the Disabled and the Roma stating that they were lowering our standard of living. Today we have two people, Prime Minister Robert Fico (Smer-SD) and Marián Kotleb (LSNS) who use this rhetoric. They say it’s our problem that we’re sick of it. In fact, Prime Minister Robert Fico has had ten years of government and caused 50,000 other Romani children to grow without adequate education”.
