Lety – Camp Measured

The exact extent of the Lety camp has been assessed by archaeologists. They managed to find physical remains of the barracks, contrary to the common view that the camp was totally razed at the end of the War.

Czech Republic and Memorial

The planned opening of a memorial to the Roma victims of the Holocaust in Hodonin, on the site of a former concentration camp, has been delayed indefinitely. This is the result of a possible transfer of ownership of the memorial and exhibition from the Education Ministry to the Government Council for Roma Minority Affairs.
Well, seems that the Czech prefer not to dwell too much on the fact that they killed nearly all Roma in the country during World War Two.

Austria and the Holocaust

An interesting article from the catholic church about the Roma victims of the Holocaust in the Diocese of Eisenstadt in the Easern part of the country. There, the camp of Lackenbach had more than 4’000 local Roma who were doing forced labour in appalling conditions. Many more were simply sent to death camps.

The closure of the pig farm in Lety is still not yet secured, in spite of promises by the government to buy the farm back.
This pig farm on the site of a former concentration camp for Roma in the Czech republic hasn’t been resolved in by now nearly 30 years…

Switzerland and Roma Holocaust

There is a strong push by Roma organisations in Switzerland to have Switzerland recognise August 2nd the Roma Holocaust Memorial Day. The day has already been recognised by the European Union, and, as this year Switzerland is heading the Holocaust Remembrance Commemorations, Switzerland should recognise it too.
This day was chosen as it marked the end of the Zigeunerlager at Auschwitz, with the remaining inmates executed during the night.

He engages himself among other things into closing the pig farm that stands on the site of the former concentration camp of Lety, where many relatives of his wife were killed during the war. This fight has been ongoing since at least 25 years, and is still not closed.
