Another article on Nizaqete Bislimi, a lawyer and a Rroma refugee from Kosovo.
Interesting reading on the Rroma Decade and its failures. This from the OSI. Fact is, the Rroma decade did not achieve much, if anything…
Seems that integration is not that relevant. So called insertions villages near Paris have been cancelled. Why is not clear, but needs to be asked …
A report on the so-called “Bildungsberater” in Germany, people who help the integration of Rroma children in schools. Most of them, as the person cited here, are Rroma themselves.
Bravo!
Read this… Badly thought arguments, and the way against them on the refugee crisis. The paragraph on Rroma is particularly scary: The argument goes as follows: Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria have not managed to integrated their Rroma, so they cannot take on any refugees.
The right way to say it: Nationalistic policies have tried to ethnicise and segregate minorities, and these have failed. Has nothing to do with refugees, and all to do with tolerance.
Representatives of the Rroma education fund met last Friday in Budapest and re-iterated that education is key for Rroma. Without it, no integration will truly be possible.
During a manifestation against Orban’s policies on refugees, Jenő Setét, a Rroma activist slammed Orbán for its policies and statements on Hungary’s Rroma. Recently Orban even stated that he would not wish other countries to live with such a minority…
Read this … Orban effectively says Hungary cannot take refugees as they have several hundred thousand Gypsies… And that he doesn’t ask anyone to live with such numbers.
Well for one, there are 800’000 according to the cogernment, and they beat the Hungarians to Europe.
SHAME!
– Asylum seekers get a result but it’s not over yet. In: Budapest Times. 12.09.2015. http://budapesttimes.hu/2015/09/12/asylum-seekers-get-a-result-but-its-not-over-yet/
Bulgaria and Sweden are talking about migrants and poverty and Sweden is hoping to improve the living conditions of Rroma there.
Let’s see… Sweden’s agreement with Romania did not do much.
During the second Rroma cultural festival in Dortmund, young Rroma took part in a round table aimed at reducing stereotypes. They spoke about their lives, and clearly, these do not conform to the stereotypes. This can be felt in the article, as the journalist has trouble accepting that this is the norm and not the exception.
The exceptions are the ones the press speak about all the time!
In Montreuil, north of Paris, a new integration policy is being put in place.
About time!
An article highlighting the need for a fundamental change and reform of the EU in order the further the Rroma integration.
Under pressure from residents, the city of Toulouse has cancelled its attempt to open a second insertion village aimed at integrating Rroma migrants.
A pity…
A recent study on the EU subsidies to Roma communities in the Balkan showed that only 1.5% of the aid was aimed at integration. Apparently, programs had “shortcomings”.
A SCANDAL
13 members of the Czech Philharmonic will play together with Rroma children in Slovakia as part of the actions from Ida Kelarova, a Rromani singer who is engaged in helping children and Rroma integration.
The situation in Garmen is still making the headlines. A reportage and overview of the current situation in that village and of the increasing ethnic tensions.
Local opposition is stiffening against the planned establishment in Toulouse of a second insertion village, a settlement where 32 Rroam families will find place to facilitate their integration.
We hope that the project will go ahead, as the first such village has proven to be a success.
An interesting report on an integration project in the district of Neukölln in Berlin. Many migrants, among which quite a few Rroma have settled in recent years in that part of town.
The project MigRom, started by the University of Manchester in collaboration of with the city has already made significant inroads in helping the city to engage with its Rroma community. It is now entering a new phase. The new group “Roma Voices of Manchester”, which was set up with the help of the project is now recognised as the principa channel of communication with the Rroma.
Switzerland just signed an agreement with Bulgaria providing 8 Mio Swiss Francs to the municipalities of Burgas, Ruses, and Sliven to further Rroma (and other minorities) inclusion, centring on education and basic health care. In view of the more and more extremist views of the general population towards minorities and Rroma in particular, this in a country that used to be tolerant, one wonders whether this is the right approach.
