An interview of Ayhan Küçükboyacı, a Turkish Rroma musician.
For once, Womex, held in Budapest, featured a Rroma band on the centre stage: Romego together with Monika Lakatos. Especially in view of the situation of Rroma in Hungary, well done!
Hungary’s minister of justice Laszlo Trocsanyi sayd on Monday that 12 million Rroma could potentially be joining ISIS (IS/Daech) … If they do so, it would be because they are being discriminated against. But … Rroma never did violence, bombs, and terrorism. There are Rroma Muslims, but they certainly are not radicals. This is purely populism to justify exclusion, segregation, and discrimination.
The minister later recanted, showing that on top of a lack of intellectual logic, he is not really courageous about his opinions.
DO WE HAVE TO LISTEN TO THIS???
Please protest!
A conference on the persecution of Rroam and Sinti in World War Two but also before.
An article on the French concentration camp of Rivesaltes. A camp that is often forgotten but was an important one in the South of France.
The council of Europe human rights’ watchdog, Niels Mužnieks slammed Slovakia and the Czech Republic for the segregation and discriminations in schools for Rroma. These countries are continuing to place Rroma children in “special schools”, often for mentally disabled children. They also criticised the physical violence against Rroma by the police in Slovakai as well as other segregating and discriminating actions in those countries.
Shame on them!
The Council of Europe said that the Czech and Slovak Republics are not doing enough on Rroma and gay rights. Clearly so – but one should say that while there are gays in all minorities, the ethnic discrimination is clearly one of the top issues in those countries.
In spite of the safe country “label”, the discrimination and persecutions of Rroma in the Balkans is now being recognised! About time!!!
The camp in St. Pantaleon in Weyer used to house Rroma during World War Two. On the 18th, there will be a remembrance for the Rroma victims there. It is chilling to read the story of this camp and the fact that many new what was going on there …
An article by a Turkish German paper on the Rroma Holocaust. And yes, it is true, it was Rroma’s fault.
The Council of Europe is increasingly worried by the rise of racism in Germany. The article cites the press as one of the responsible actors in this situation, at least in the case of Rroma.
Worthy read!
Romani Rose, the president of the German Council of Sinti and Roma says in an interview that the values to which we have arrived at on the Holocaust, the persecution of minorities etc. are under threat.
A discussion on prejudices and stereotypes on Rroma.
Rroma Pride took place yesterday in 14 European cities. In Prague, they pointed aout the scandal of Lety where a pig farm is located on the site of a former concentration camp.
The central council of German Sinti and Roma and his president, Romani Rose sharply criticised the concept of safe countries especially in the Balkan and for Rroma.
BRAVO!
Ukraine commemorates the start of the Babi Yar massacre near Kiev which saw nearly 100’000 people killed in 1941, mostly Jews, but also Rroma and some others.
Remember!
According to a report from Romeurope, a collective engaged in defending Rroma, France is systematically discriminating and segregating Rroma. They denounce the practices of the expulsions and the overall policy of the French government.
Well Done!!!
The story of the dog is still doing the rounds. The police is now investigating (at last), and the press still reports on it. What is missed by all, are that the statements of the person who snatched the dog are deliberately generalising and racist … Not all Rroma drug their dogs or eat their cats. As least I don’t.
SHAME!!!
Slovakia chooses the movie on the Rroma boxer nicknamed “Koza” – the goat – as their Oscar submission!
The movie is making waves! Good, but let’s remember this is Romania, and Romania only. Let’s not generalise on all Rroma.
