Another article about the recent razzias in gangs trafficking children and forcing them to beg and steal. While the Netherlands’ papers were full of mentions of Rroma, the BBC did not write it. Good for them!
Rroma are still under-represented in politics in Spain. An article about a Rromni who is gearing up to gain a seat in Parliament!
One of the few camping places for travelling Rroma and Sinti in Germany will be closed. The Roma and Cinti Union, who has been running this camp, has been informed they will have to leave it until October.
An online documentation in Berlin shows the extent of the discrimination against Rroma in that city.

Further protests in Germany by Rroma in order not to be deported. This is still the continuation of the declaration of several Balkan countries such as Bosnia and Kosovo as being “safe countries” also for minorities such as Rroma.

Police in the Netherland has apparently uncovered 4 networks trafficking Rroma children for theft and begging. Apparently, the children are meant to steel 1’000 EUR per day. Some of these children had been placed under supervision in Holland and were found in Spain. The story seems true, unfortunately. To be followed.
Small scandal in Rome again in the administration of the Rroma camps around the capital. The police arrested several people for corruption, kickbacks and bribes regarding these camps. And this time not the Rroma.
It shows how much vested interests exists NOT to solve the problem…
The new mayor of Rroma, Virginia Raggi, wants to close the Rroma camps around the capital. Nice thoughts, but is the will there? These camps were run by politics, NGOs, and the police, to some profit, apparently …

Children were removed by court order from a Rroma family in Ireland. The children had lice, ringworm, little to eat. All the signs of poverty. Not much that is Rroma specific. Yet, this is what comes out of the article.

When Football is king, there are certainly less news about Rroma. Very few news this week in France. In Loos, in the North, the camp was finally dismantled, and burnt down, only two families found a new lodging; in Annet sur Marne, near Paris, the Rroma left leaving lots of garbage; in Cuges, in the South, the mayor calls for blocking travellers from camping there; and in the Alps, travellers finally left La Vue des Alpes.
On a more positive touch, Médecisn sans Frontières is deeply engaged in the North helping Rroma; and in Sètes, in the South, a story on inclusion in School.
The French Association SOS Racisme is calling for a ban of the Croatian supporters’ song “Lijepa Li si” a song that was composed by an ultra-nationalist Marko Perkovic, an admirer of the Ustacha. The song also promotes the conquest of Bosnian lands …
The EU awarded a prize to Greek children for their drawings on Rroma inclusion.
The Swedish state was ordered to pay damages to Rroma who sued the state for having kept a police register on Rroma.

Demonstrators protested in Germany against the current asylum policies of the German state, who, having declared several Balkan countries as safe countries, are systematically denying asylum claims by Rroma from these countries.
The Front National French Mayor of Cogolin in the South, Marc-Étienne Lansade, is back on the headlines. This time, not for his actions against Rroma – he was the one who posted on facebook boasting that he was cleaning Cogolin of Rroma, but because his financial skills are definitively not good, or even potentially criminal…
This week’s news summary from France. Not so much, which is not surprising, as there were other news in the front pages.
In Lille, Rroma are told to leave France and to move to another place, to Vauban; in the North again, a difficult cohabitation between local travellers (i.e. Manouches) and Rroma; and a police action and a tumultuous municipal council in Loos, in the North of France.
Then two articles on schools one about the inclusion of migrants, the other about pollution near a school where Rroma are.
And finally, of course the usual crime stories with a reported increase of break in in the West and pickpockets in the South.
