It seems that with the polemics on the Front National politician on gold teeth, the rest of the news is pretty much concentrated in the North of France… Why is a mystery, but clearly one speaks more about Rroma in the North of France than in any other region of the country bar Paris.
More closures in Roubaix, on the Quai de Bordeau; and with one squat being on the list of impeding closures; in Ronchin, where the former school Sainte Thérèse has been closed and is now being sealed to prevent any other arrival; and finally for the North, the arrest of a 14 years old Rroma boy following a theft, and who was recognised by a women who was sexually assaulted, prompting the closure of several camps in Lille.
Other news in France cover the interpellation of Marine Le Pen in the South of France by a Rrom on the affair of the gold teeth; the visit of an “insertion village” in the Isère by the Minister of Housing; and a reportage on children sleeping in the rough in Caen, in Normandie.

The Front National politician, Franck Sinisi, who last week suggested that one could recover the gold the gold teeth from the Rroma to pay for their lodging (really!) is being investigated by his own party.
Well, good that the FN realised this is not acceptable, but do we believe that they are really serious about that? There have been too many politicians of that party, starting with Jean Marie Le Pen himself who have made such statements.

A conference was held in Paris on the integration of Rroma in the country. The conference’s title was voluntarily provocative: “Pourquoi ne seraient-ils pas intégrables ?” [Why couldn’t they be integrated] and is a reflection of Manuel Valls’ statement a few years back stating that Rroma cannot be integrated.

Finally, the integration plan of Rome’s mayor, Virginia Raggi has been unveiled. And there is quite a bit of critique against it. The Association “July 21st” has criticised the plan in a press conference, denouncing weaknesses and contradictions. The main issues are: The plan only covers a tiny minority of the Rroma in the city and the plan to put the Rroma in some separate settlement which would rapidly turn into a ghetto.

An association “Phurdo” has turned itself in Salzburg into a centre for Rroma and into a bridge between Rroma, Sinti and the general population. It is now being funded by the city.

Not that many news in France this week (that is besides the Front National statement on Rroma)… A police affair in Montpellier where two persons were detained and beaten by Rroma after they came to their camp to gather scrap metal, which was followed by the arrest of four Rroma and their prompt liberation as they were not the ones who detained the others. Bad. And then, in Bondy, near Paris, the mayor is facing citizen who want the Rroma out; in Villeurbane, near Lyon, a camp was destroyed by fire, leaving more than 100 people on the street; in Montpellier, associations are asking for a stop of stigmatisation of the Rroma; and finally, in the North, a squat in Lille is still making the headlines – all following the aggressions there.

Last time this was done was at Auschwitz! If you had any doubts about the French Front National, this is it.
The Mayor is called Franck Sinisi. His full citation is: “pour loger les Roms, je pense qu’il pourrait y avoir un auto-financement. La Métropole devrait leur payer un dentiste… afin de récupérer les dents en or” [to lodge Roma, I think that there should be a self funding. The state should pay them a dentist … so as to recover their gold teeth].

On March 7th, the Welfare Department has approved a measure aimed at identifying a new “picnic area” (SIC!) intended to “welcome and provide a staying possibility for 120 Roma families “, with a “service management”. In practice it is a new settlement to replace the current “Camping River”, in which there are 420 people, for which management services will expire on June 30 of this year.
