French Chronicle …

Published by:

This week’s chronicle is dominated by a few places. First and foremost, Cogolin, in the South where a Front National Mayor commented the destruction on a Rroma camp live on TV – watch it, in case you doubt what this party stands for. The statements he made (about the odour etc.) are actually plain racist.

Then, near Paris, in Annet sur Marne, a camp’s fate is in the hand of the judges; in Saint-Ouen, near Paris, the mayor blocks a street to get rid of Rroma; in Lille, Rroma may be forced to leave while in Roubaix, garbage strewn on the street creates anger.

Then an article about a strategy about Rroma … One wonders, So much noise and work for less than 20’000 Rroma – the problem could have been resolved a long while back.

UN urged to Pay

Le Pen: No Shame!!!

Published by:

Right after having been condemned for racism, Jean-Maire Le Pen finds nothing better than celebrate with the French magazine “Rivarol” amongst a full set of true extremists making really racist comments.

Unfortunately, this cannot be condemned…

Hungary: Strasbourg Condemnation

Published by:

A Hungarian Rroma woman who was insulted and threatened during an right wing manifestation had complained that these abuses were not investigated in Hungary. The European Court in Strasbourg stated that the police should have investigated these acts, especially in view of their extreme nature (and the events in Hungary).

The events occurred in the village of Gyöngyöspata in North Eastern Hungary.

GOOD!

World Bank: Improve Opportunities

Published by:

According to the World Bank, improving opportunities for Rroma children will pay off. According to the bank, the first 1’000 days are particularly important. Education, but also nutrition, and health.

However, stating that Hungary has done a lot is clearly exaggerated, as a simple tour through the countryside in that country will easily show.

Jasenovac

Published by:

The celebration of the commemoration of the evasion of more than 600 inmates of the notorious Croatian Deacth Camps Jacenovac were boycotted by Jewish organizations. Jews and Rroma were murdered in this camp by local Croatian Ustasha during World War Two. In Croatia, only ca. 20 (really!) Families survived the War.

The reason for the Boycott: The tendency to re-habilitate several Croatian key figures who contributed to these crimes.

Switzerland: Jenische Petition Government

Published by:

The Swiss Jenisch (or travelers) sent a petition to the Swiss government asking for their recognition as a minority. In Switzerland, technically, only travelers are recognized, not Jenische, Sinti, and Rroma.
