The book “1941” by Slavko Goldstein analyses the origins of the nationalism in the Balkans, and shows the atrocities committed by the Ustaša against Jew, Roma, and Serbs during that time.

Following the statements by Branimir Bunjac, a Croatian MP from the Živi Zid party (a populist party) that Roma bride were sold in Northern Croatia, the press took the information over and splashed it everywhere.
Now the police stated they had NO EVIDENCE of such transactions.
No further comments.

Another article on bride selling – this time in Croatia, a country where racism runs anyhow high. Again, the right question is not being asked: Is it “selling” or is it an early wedding with the Vlach tradition of paying the father of the bride.
Such small differentiations are probably too much to ask.

28% of the Roma in Croatia feel discriminated against… Only?
Most of the Roma in Croatia came after the War as the Ustaša killed almost all Croatian Roma during the war.

A commemorative plaque was unveiled in Eastern Croatia, not far from the former concentration camp of Jasenovac… This plaque uses the Ustaša slogan “Za dom spremni” [Ready for the Country] and is definitively not OK.
Bad.

April 22nd is the day of the commemoration of the victims of the Ustaši regime in Croatia. The regime ran a systematic annihilation of its Jewish and Rroma minorities during World War Two. Unfortunately, these crimes are not universally recognised and the current Croatian government is even rehabilitating some people who were involved in the regime.

Relative of the victims of Jasenovac, mostly Jews and Rroma as well as Serbs, are asking for a compensation from the Croatian state. The Croatian Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed that in recent days it received a lawsuit of the relatives of Croatian Serbs, Roma and Jews for the return of confiscated property and for the repayment of the suffering during the Independent State of Croatia (NDH).
Serves the Croatian well for rehabilitating several of the perpetuators of these crimes.

This year, Jews again boycotted the Croatian commemorations of the Holocaust. Several Rroma organisations too, although several other did attend.
An explanation of why this boycott: The history is being quietly rewritten in Croatia, and the crimes of the Ustasha and the murders they committed are being retouched.
Rroma and Jews were their victims in camps such as the infamous Jasenovac.

The project “give them a chance” was presented recently in Lendava. The project with its partners from Slovenia, Hungary and Croatia prepared a training program for teachers in various education programs and vocational training for adults taught by members of the Roma ethnic minority. As explained by Rachel Hojnik in the People’s University of Lendava the targets of this program are adult educators who work in areas where members of the Roma ethnic minority live.

An interview of the young Rromni Leonarda Dibrani who was expulsed from France together with her family (in spite of being in school). While they were expelled to Kosovo, she now lives in Croatia, which says a lot about the “safety” of Kosovo for Rroma. And it is difficult for her.
A worthy read on the damage of mistaken Refugee policies.

The Croatian president Kolinda Grabar-Kitarovic posed on a picture with a Croatian flag bearing the symbol of the Ustaša during a visit in Canada. The flag, while being close to the current Croatian one, shows the coat of arms starting with a white square on the left hand corner, which is the Ustaša pattern.
Knowing the current revisionists views in Croatia concerning their fascist past, this is not really good …

Croatia rehabilitated Cardinal Stepinac. The cardinal had been condemned in 1946 in a trial, which according to the current judge violated his right to a fair trial. May well be, but Stepinac was a supporter of the Ustaša regime and he never condemned their actions, especially not the killings of Jews and Rroma.
Stepinac is and remains a supporter of mass murderers.
