Lausanne and Beggars

Lausanne and Beggars

An article about the somewhat peculiar relationship between Lausanne and its few beggars. There are around 60 of them at any given point in time (not much), a few of them are Rroma, mostly from one region of Romania, and Lausanne is in a love hate relationship with them.

A lot of noise for a small problem…

Slovak Media, Rroma, and Refugees

Slovak Media, Rroma, and Refugees

A Study conducted on Slovak Media by the Media Academy in Bratislava and a Rroma organisation – Romano Kher – shows that the Slovak Media have a strong bias in their presentation of Rroma and Refugees. Negative stereotypes prevail in both cases.

Unfortunately not surprising.

20% …

Published by:

According to a report of the Roma Education Fund, only 20% of Rroma complete their secondary education.

20% of what … According to the Hungarian official statistics, there are less than 200’000 Rroma in Hungary. According to the same government, there are more poor Rroma than that and actually, there are 600’000 Rroma in Hungary. The reality is that there are around 800’000 Rroma in Hungary.

So, which 20%?

First News … Bad News from Hungary

First News … Bad News from Hungary

On the first day of the year, there is good and bad … And the bad, while still having happened in 2015 says that there is work still to be done.

In Gyöngyöspata, a village in North Eastern Hungary, a Rroma house was set ablaze. It is the sixth time this year, and no culprits have been arrested. This is not acceptable!

Education in Serbia

Education in Serbia

Some interesting numbers in Serbia and on education. The census counted 147’000 Rroma in Serbia, or rather, 147’000 people declared themselves or were rated as such in the survey. This represents 2.1% of the population in Serbia. Generally, one counts that there are about 10% of Rroma in that country. A bit more.

The ones who were registered have a bleak future with very low education (only one in a thousand will make it to university).

Bleak but not the full picture.

More Crime … Geneva

More Crime … Geneva

A sordid story of a mal prostitute from Romania and his client and violence. The prostitute slit the throat of the client in whose flat he was living, killed the dogs and torched the flat.

OK, it is crime. What is the relevance here of the fact that the two criminals were Rroma? Does it add anything or does it just strengthen stereotypes?

A poll in the Czech Republic on ethnic groups and nations gives the expected results: The demonstration that Czech are profoundly prejudiced and also probably are not exactly well endowed in their heads …

An interview of Kenan Emini, president of the Roma anti-discrimination Network Göttigen on the forced repatriation of Rroma to so-called sagfe countries such as Kosovo.

A Missed Opportunity

A Missed Opportunity

The former French President, Nicolas Sarkozy again missed a good opportunity to remain silent. He again fumed against immigration, refugees, and Rroma.

Pity that France did not close their border in 1956… He would be playing with Orban in Hungary nowadays!

Geneva Police in Romania

Published by:

Geneva Police in Romania

The Geneva police went to investigate a case of human trafficking – a man accused to have sold his invalid son to go and beg in Geneva. As usual, stereotypes prevail. No one has so far proven that there are criminal clans engaged in begging. There are families who live from that, but this is about it. And it is not a business – not for 20 CHF per day.

Kosovo Rroma: Two families must return

Kosovo Rroma: Two families must return

A German court in Göttingen decided that two families of Rroma from the Kosovo must return as they did not integrate in Germany.

SHAME!

First, the Germans recognised the ethnic cleansing of Kosovo and de-facto expulsion of all minorities, with less than 10% of the original Rroma still living there, and now, 16 years after the facts, people are sent back.
