Martin Kotleba, the rightist extremist in Slovakia wants to round up “asocial” Rroma and force them to work.
Last time we heard such statements, it was under Hitler.

An interesting article on the social care in Slovakia, which, in the eyes of the social workers, does not work properly in Slovakia. These workers, in this case one who has been working with Rroma since the floods in 1988 in Jarovnice, floods which killed many Rroma, do not want to leave the settlements and continue helping. They are facing larger and larger hurdles.

The video of an expensive (but not necessarily chic) wedding of Rroma in Slovakia has gone viral. And resulted in articles in several papers.
Not the best advertisement for Rroma to say the least, if you want to stop stereotypes.

Rroma in the Slovak town of Velky near Kosiče are being housed in mobile homes and caravans instead of regular houses, this for economical reasons as it is cheaper for the municipality.
In spite of the fact that Rroma in Slovakia have NEVER lived in caravans before. How about a bit of integration instead of further segregation!

A commentary from Slovakia arguing that the increased growth experienced by the country recently can be an engine for the integration of Rroma in that country. Slovakia is increasingly importing workers from as far as Bulgaria and is only slowly starting to hire local Rroma. And there are more than enough who are willing to work.

A new project has been started in Slovakia aiming at mentoring gifted young Rroma children.These children all come from segregated Rroma settlements, right now in the region of Kosice.

The right wing party of Kotleba has launched vigilantes patrols in trains in Slovakia. This followed the alleged attack of a women by a Rrom near Levice.
Thankfully, the government is acting fast and is declaring these patrols to be illegal.
Germany will pay 2’500 Euro to Czech Rroma Holocaust survivors. Knowing how many effectively survived (actually almost no Czech Rroma did survive, most Rroma in the Czech Republic are originally from Slovakia, having been moved there by the communists right after the war) and the time passed, this is not going to ruin Germany.
It is almost an insult…
