Child Poverty in France …

The French government is defending its policies on fighting children poverty at the UN in Geneva. Besides the high number of children living in poverty in that country, France was also criticised about access to schools and discrimination of migrants, especially of Rroma.

French Chronicle …

And the first full French chronicle of the year. An article about young Rroma doing their civic service among poor Rroma; in Grenoble, a Rroma camp is reopened after a fire in December; in the North, in Hautbourdin, life goes on; in Lyon, the first Rroma families settle in a new insertion village; a reportage on la Courneuve – one of the oldest camps around Paris that was closed recently; in Toulouse, an abandoned building that was squatted by Rroma will finally be destroyed; and finally, a social theme with an open table in Roubaix in the North of France.

First French Chronicle of 2016 …

Short chronicle for these first few days of the year. Festivities and Rroma news do not mix well, apparently.

A new year party with Rroma in Lille; a fire in a Rroma camp near Grenoble; in that same city, a camp might be evicted; further flash backs on 2015 in the North of France; a Rrom in front of a judge for stealing youngsters in Lille; and the Frech Communist party (yes, it still exists) calling for more pluralism and tolerance, in spite of the fact tha tcommujnist mayoirs did expel Rroma …

Last French Chronicle of 2015

In the hope that 2016 will be kinder to us, here’s the last chronicle of the year for France and Rroma. An integration story in Sucy, near Paris; near Lyon, a camp will be destroyed; in the same Lyon, one asks why there are still some camps in the city; in the North, one remembers a child who died in a fire in a camp near Lille and one remembers a campaign against Rroma; in the same region, one commemorates the large projects that changed the city – repacing a Rroma camp by a new settlement; and finally one interrogates oneself as to why the Front National did such a good score;

First Rroma Families in Saint-Genis-les-Ollières

The first Rroma families arrived in the insertion village in Saint-Genis-les-Ollières in spite of a long opposition by the mayor and the residents.

Let’s hope things will work out.

In a few places, people went out of their way to help Rroma on Christmas day. In Western France in Nantes and in Normandie, in Paris, in the North of France, and in Rome.

Zemour: Condemned for Incitation to Racial Hatred

After having been freed in first instance, Eric Zemour was condemned in second Instance for incitation to racial hatred for his statement « Les Normands, les Huns, les Arabes, les grandes invasions d’après la chute de Rome sont désormais remplacés par les bandes de Tchétchènes, de Roms, de Kosovars, de Maghrébins, d’Africains qui dévalisent, violentent ou dépouillent » [Normans, Huns, Arabs, the big invasions after the fall of Rome are nowadays replaced by bands of Chechens, Kosovars, Maghrebians, Africans who steal, rape or rob.]

French Chronicle …

Mixed bag this week … Apart from the news from Saint-Gilles-les-Ollières, two articles on the illegal Rroma camp on the former railway around Paris; in Ivry, near Paris, ten houses for Rroma are inaugurated; a few articles on the regional votes, and especially on the Front National; and then, of course, criminality …

France; Saint-Genis-les-Ollières – again

In spite of protests by the mayor and by the town’s residents, the French state ordered the continuation of the works for the so-called insertion village for Rroma. The opposition of the residents is totally overblown and shows what people actually think about Rroma in France.

Gens du Voyage

Sans commentaires – without commentaries.

The news on travellers in France (gens du voyage) is as usual dominated by opposition and issues with their camps, and of course criminality. The number of articles says it all (and it is only a sample).

Manifestation against Camp Closure

An Italian association, “July 21” is protesting the closure of a Rroma camp near Rome as part of the fight against petty criminality. One should say there that these camps – contrary to France – are run by the state, the police, and NGOs. Rroma have been parked in them for decades ….

Reduced Other French News

The French news are dominated by the regional elections in France where Rroma are instrumentalised by the Front National. Many articles on this topic, but little specific content beyond this fact…

Other than that, few news beyond Saint-Genis-les-Ollières. In Wissous, neighbours are furious because of the Rroma camp, complaining about noise, dirt, and rats; a cadaver was discovered in a site previously squatted by Rroma near Marseilles; one family (yes, one) happy tale in the North of France after having found a permanent housing; and finally an exhibitionist who was paying Rroma children to watch him – one of the few news with Rroma where the Rroma are not the criminals…

France: Opposition to an Integration Village

The inhabitants and the mayor of the small village of Saint-Genis-les-Ollières near Lyon are continuing their opposition to an integration village (village d’insertion) for Rroma in their commune. They are now giving back their elector’s cards and the mayor’s trying a last legal recourse against this decision.

A Missed Opportunity

The former French President, Nicolas Sarkozy again missed a good opportunity to remain silent. He again fumed against immigration, refugees, and Rroma.

Pity that France did not close their border in 1956… He would be playing with Orban in Hungary nowadays!

French Travellers: Backwards Traditions

Published by:

The story of a young traveller girl who was shut in for three weeks because she lost her virginity is placated in the press as a sign of the backwardness of these travellers. The point here is not that it happened, there are traditional people in every community (otherwise, there wouldn’t have been so many people in France manifesting for “traditional” families), the point is that it is not descriptive of all Rroma …

Gens Du Voyage in France: Unwanted

Besides being criminals (see other post), Gens du Voyage – travellers, are also unwanted in France. People don’t want them near them for sure. This term usually covers Manouches, Sinti, and Lovara and Kaldersasha who are at home in France besides non-Rroma groups of travellers.
