A commemoration was held on the Barankapark in Vienna, a place where, before the war, Rroma and Sinti camped. This commemoration has been held for the last 20 years in honour of the victims of the deportations.

Angelo Garand, a French Manouche from the Orléans region in Francewas killed by the police in April. The police was looking for him as he had failed to return to prison after a leave (he was condemned for two years following burglaries).
The police commando who killed him claimed he threw himself on them.
The family wants now to get full transparency on what really happened and on why he was killed. They need support – help them too!

In Germany, Rroma protests – for example for the right of refugees from Kosovo an former Yugoslavia – have been held at or around memorial for the victims of the Holocaust.

A new study Ludwig-Maximilians University on feelings towards different ethnic and cultural groups shows clearly that Moslems are negatively felt – 18% strongly so, 31% somewhat, and 38% have a low negative view on them. In brief, only 12% of the people in the study had nothing against Moslems … One in ten!!!
And Rroma? 30% of the people have a negative view of them. They are barely better than refugees with 28% and Jews with 18%.

The German state of Thürigen is the latest one who has moved to protect the graves of the Holocaust survivors. In Germany, if the family doesn’t pay, the graves are removed after a 30 years period. Now, the graves of Rroma and Sinti former Holocaust survivros will be preserved for posterity.

72 years after the end of World War Two, Romania has still not come to terms with its past regarding the Holocaust. Romania, an ally of Germany, deported many Rroma to Transnistria where many of them died of hunger and diseases.
While on paper, a law was enacted for the survivors of the holocaust, granting them a small pension, most Rroma do not receive it – for lack of papers, but basically out of discrimination.
