Germany: New Association in Augsburg

A new association for Rroma and Sinti in Augsburg has been created and is being officially presented at the town hall. The organisation wants to promote the culture, combat discrimination and stereotypes, and remember the victims of the Holocaust.

A new term “Gruppenbezogene Meschenfeindlichkeit” – meaning roughly “Group related human hostility” is making the rounds in Germany.
What it means is simply racism against minorities. And the article points it out, 25% of Germans are against Rroma and Sinti.

Ukraine, Health, and Discrimination

The Ombudsman has acted against discrimination of Roma in the Odessa hospital. Valery Lutkovska, Ukraine’s Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights insists that discrimination against Roma in accessing health services is inadmissible.
Monitoring the rights of Rroma in Ukraine showed that among the list of the many challenges they face, there is a particularly acute problem of discrimination in accessing health services.

The president (and presidential candidate) of the Front National said in a meeting in Dinan, in the north, that criminality and insecurity were the result of the presence of 1’000 Rroma in that city.
This is racism at its worst.

Almost no news this week in France on Rroma… In Paris, on the tracks of the former “petite ceinture” railways, the camps are waiting for the ruling that will most probably see them dismantled for the second time in as many years; in the South, a “western” about prostitution – on a regional road where many prostitutes wait for their clients, who are now criminal under French law; the story of the cheap modular village thought by students goes one; and finally, associations denouncing the stereotypes that are propagated by politicians and the Press. This is good for a change.

Milan Mazurek, an extreme rightist is being investigated for racist comments he made in the Zilina radio Frontinus. He came to the radio in October 2016 instead of Kotleba, the head of the extreme rightist party in Slovakia. The radio itself is also under investigation for breaching broadcasting standards and violating impartiality and objectivity standards in the news.

Hungary: Operetta on Rroma

A Hungarian Operetta on Rroma has debuted at the Hungarian National Theatre. The play has been on stage in 2014 in Hungary and abroad. The performance claims to show f Roma Culture and traditions and to seek authentic Gypsy music and dance show of the world.
The plot however, is clearly biased towards the life in the Cigany Telep, the Rroma ghettoes in villages and towns of Hungary. Quite full of stereotypes.
