An article about the increasing xenophobia and racism in Sweden. Scary.
The OSCE stated that peace and stability in Europe is not possible without the inclusion of Rroma. There are several ways to interpret this, but let’s hope for the best.
An article about the general situation in Hungary. Bleak to say the least, and there is not much that is going on to improve this situation …
A report of the European Parliament on the current situation of Rroma in several EU countries and their discrimination in housing.
In his speech to Rroma representatives, Pope Francis told Rroma not to fall into crime so as to break free of prejudice. Translated, this de facto means that the pope thinks that (a) many Rroma are criminals and (b) this is the root cause of their discrimination.
Wrong in both cases …
An exhibition in Augsburg speaks about the discrimination that Rroma encountered and still live in Germany and in the Czech Republic.
The Red-Green Government of Thuringia wants to protect Rroma and Sinti from discrimination. About time…
Hungary’s minister of justice Laszlo Trocsanyi sayd on Monday that 12 million Rroma could potentially be joining ISIS (IS/Daech) … If they do so, it would be because they are being discriminated against. But … Rroma never did violence, bombs, and terrorism. There are Rroma Muslims, but they certainly are not radicals. This is purely populism to justify exclusion, segregation, and discrimination.
The minister later recanted, showing that on top of a lack of intellectual logic, he is not really courageous about his opinions.
DO WE HAVE TO LISTEN TO THIS???
Please protest!
Apparently, there is little differences between a Rroma funeral and a bunch of refugees, at least in the Czech Republic where several people called the police …
Gyurcány, the former Hungarian prime minister and leader of the socialist opposition to Voktor Orban, is courting Rroma. In that country, this is real news. He spoke in the context of the Roma Pride day, welcoming Rroma and addressing them as brothers and sisters.
News!
Seems that this week, the chronicle is concentrated in the North and in the Lyon region … A video on Rroma in camp in Lille and in their village of origin; political discussions with Marine le Pen on Rroma in Lille; a report on poverty in Roubaix; Rroma left a camp in Roubaix; Rroma and Iraqi Christians being lodged together in an old presbytery; police action in a camp near Lyon; and finally, the residents of a village are fighting against the arrival of Rroma.
The council of Europe human rights’ watchdog, Niels Mužnieks slammed Slovakia and the Czech Republic for the segregation and discriminations in schools for Rroma. These countries are continuing to place Rroma children in “special schools”, often for mentally disabled children. They also criticised the physical violence against Rroma by the police in Slovakai as well as other segregating and discriminating actions in those countries.
Shame on them!
Picture of slums in Slovakia and Romania. Let’s not forget that this is not the reality of all Rroma. It exist, but is neither the norm nor an ethical trait.
The Council of Europe said that the Czech and Slovak Republics are not doing enough on Rroma and gay rights. Clearly so – but one should say that while there are gays in all minorities, the ethnic discrimination is clearly one of the top issues in those countries.
In spite of the safe country “label”, the discrimination and persecutions of Rroma in the Balkans is now being recognised! About time!!!
The Rroma circus. “Cirque Romanes” in Paris, seems not exactly popular in the Paris suburbs where it has been located for ages. They are the victims of thefts and depredations on a nearly daily basis.
What is going on?
Turkey’s president criticises Europe on their handling of Rroma. He should maybe not forget that what he does with them in Turkey is not better than the worst of the Eastern European countries.
LOOK AT HOME FIRST!
The Council of Europe is increasingly worried by the rise of racism in Germany. The article cites the press as one of the responsible actors in this situation, at least in the case of Rroma.
Worthy read!
The National Front for the Salvation of Bulgaria is presenting a candidate as Mayor of Sofia, the capital. This party advocates removing illegal Roma ghettos, something that is already happening in various cities in that country.
The intervention of the Serbian President at the UN. Worthwhile reading.
