Rome – Protests

In the afternoon of September 13, Roma families of the Camping River camp decided to return to their homes in Via Tenuta Piccirilli 207, on the Tiberina, in the North of Rome. They were protesting against the illegitimate eviction ordered by Matteo Salvini and Virginia Raggi on July 26, 2018: “we want to guarantee a school and a home for all our children: we cannot live on the streets”.
It is a shame …

Rastislav Trnka, in early July, the president of Kosice Self-governing, filed a criminal complaint regarding a bribe he was offered and for the intimidation he has been subjected to related to the mismanagement of funds in the case of an education program in Sečovcia, which belongs to the Unesco School in Dobšin. Trnka said the operation of program was too costly for the region and there were suspicions of breaching the law. It is unfortunately a program aimed at integrating Roma …

A Slovak sociologist, Jarmila Lajčáková, Center for Research on Ethnicity and Culture says that gifted young Roma often do not go to college because they lack money or self-confidence. she created a program to help Roma prepare for admission exams and then graduate from the University of Economics in Bratislava.

A camp in Lille will be closed on Monday, leaving 134 people without shelter. In Saint Denis, near Paris, a more constructive approach is being taken: Integration and education. And finally in Strasbourg, a squat was closed too.

A young 24 years old pregnant Romni was arrested and jailed in Nice for having maltreated her other two children. Roma associations are vehemently protesting – saying she was jailed for being poor.
On the more positive side, Jeanine Bouvier is working hard to get Roma children into schools in Marseilles.
Near Paris, Roma who were evacuated from a camp that was closed are now lodged into a sports centre… And the Roma in Melun living in the former hospital can stay as a judge prevented their evacuation. Finally, in the North of France, Roma in Lille can stay for a bit longer.

Controversy in the European Parliament: Slovak representatives lash back at critique of Slovakia for its Roma policies. According to Monika Beňová, a EU Slovak MP, said “I have tried to explain in a speech that without the co-operation of the Roma themselves, it is not possible to implement even the best strategy” to which a Swedish MP replied that Slovakia is still segregating Roma in school.
