Gold and the Vatican

Gold and the Vatican

An article about the Gold that was taken away from Rroma during the Holocaust in World War Two, which according to the president of the World Roma Organisation, Jovan Damjanovic, landed in Swiss banks and in the Vatican.

That 3.5 Mio Rroma died in the Holocaust is probably a very high number, experts think it is probably closer to 1.5 Million, with roughly 275’000 registered deaths (most people were not registered, even in camps, when they were immediately gassed).

That Gold transited through Switzerland, and thus also Rroma Gold, is a certainty. That some of it landed in the Vatican will be difficult to prove.

Czech Survivors: So little – So late…

Czech Survivors: So little – So late…

Germany will pay 2’500 Euro to Czech Rroma Holocaust survivors. Knowing how many effectively survived (actually almost no Czech Rroma did survive, most Rroma in the Czech Republic are originally from Slovakia, having been moved there by the communists right after the war) and the time passed, this is not going to ruin Germany.

It is almost an insult…

Czech Republic: Rroma Holocaust Survivors will be Compensated

After 70 years, Czech Rroma survivors will be compensated by Germany. Nice, but first, there are very few Czech Rroma who survived and then, after 70 years, there aren’t many left …

Hungary Commemorates the Rroma Holocaust

Hungary Commemorates the Rroma Holocaust

Hungary did commemorate the Rroma Holocaust Remembrance day and even unveiled a memorial to it. Frankly said, they should rather ponder about their history (after all, they deported pretty much all Jews and some Rroma by themselves without assistance), and about the future, namely the extreme racism against Rroma in that country.

An article by Katalin Barsony, a Hungarian Rromni and the director od the Romedia foundation on the Holocaust remembrance day and on the increasing hate towards Rroma in Europe. She is right on this, unfortunately.

We just wish that the term Porrajmos not be used…

The Pope in Auschwitz: Let’s get the Facts Straight

The Pope in Auschwitz: Let’s get the Facts Straight

The Pope visited Auschwitz, met survivors, all in silence, may the souls that departed appreciate.

But the article states some incorrect facts. The mention 1.5 mio dead. This is correct. But then say 23’000 Rroma. Also correct if you “only” count those who were registered. To give a comparison, there are 300’000 registered Jews in Auschwitz. Far from the 1.5 Mio. Simply said, registered people where the ones who were not immediately gassed. Those who died on arrival are not recorded in the camp, just in the transport. So fact is: many more Rroma died in Auschwitz than the 23’000. May their souls rest in peace.

Rroma Holocaust

Rroma Holocaust

A reminder that there was a Rroma holocaust. Unfortunately, the term used here is a total no-go: Porrajmos. It is first not understood by all non Vlach, and second, among Vlach, it refers more to a rape than anything else. Bad choice of words for a very real Holocaust. Let’s stick to Holocaust.

Elie Wiesel on Poland and Auschwitz

Published by:

An interesting article explaining Eleie Wiesel’s views on Poland (a “Jewish Graveyard”) and on why Auschwitz was so much uniquely Jewish for him.

Even if one disagrees with him on this latter point, as the Holocaust is also a Rroma tragedy, he was and remains one of the voices of our conscience. May he rest in peace.
