Glasgow: Ando Glaso Roma Fest

Glasgow is gearing up for the return of Ando Glaso Roma Fest 2024, promising a rich program of music, dance, film and cultural workshops. Taking place on Friday 6th and Saturday 7th September, this two-day festival will welcome talented artists from across the UK and Europe and offer visitors a unique insight into the rich and diverse Roma culture.

On August 22, an energetic Roma Bašavel was held as part of the 21st International Festival of New Circus and Theatewr Letní Letná. The main stars of the evening were DJ GADJO CZ, the Roma band Trio Romano and the young dance star Lily Sarah Ščuková.

Apatin, Serbia

Roma from Apatin once again proved that they are great hosts. They held a spectacular “Roma night”. The streets were filled with people, the gates and yards were wide open, and the sounds of music and laughter echoed through the settlement.  The main venue was full, while the sounds of songs and dances of barefoot children rang out from the stage, creating a unique atmosphere.

On Friday, August 23, Prague 4 will host the fifth edition of the Romany Bashavel event. The event will take place again in the popular Cultural Center on Novodvorská from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. The main star will be Slovak rapper and musician P.A.T., who promotes the so-called Roma Rap – a combination of rap and Roma traditional music, which was also accepted by the original fans of his “harder” work. ROMEA TV broadcasts the event live.

Festival in Lovosice

Roma cuisine, attractions for children, and music are in the program of the 7th Roma festival in Lesopark Osmička in Lovosice, which takes place on August 17 from 12:00 and will last until late at night. Hungary: International “Gypsy” Song Day

On August 8, 2024 – the birthday of the legendary North Macedonian singer Esma Redžepova – the International “Gypsy” Song Day will be held for the third time. This year, 15 venues in six countries will participate in the event series and 50 bands will perform at home and abroad on the initiative of Mihály “Mazsi” Rostás. The face of the series of events is Mónika Lakatos, a Romani singer who won the Kossuth and WOMEX Lifetime Achievement Awards. The International Gypsy Song Day celebrates diversity with the participation of legendary Gypsy and non-Gypsy artists with a range of venues and programs that expand every year.

Amaro Fest

On July 13 and 14, the eighth annual international Roma festival called Amaro Fest 2024 – open air gipsy festival – will be held in the Nitra amphitheater in Central Slovakia. As the organizers from the civic association Roma Art Agency stated, the goal of the event is to promote and develop Roma culture. The role of the festival is also to support Roma identity and contribute to the social and cultural inclusion of Roma.

Coldplay frontman Chris Martin personally invited the increasingly popular Romanian musician Babasha for a duet in front of thousands at the National Arena in Bucharest on Wednesday. Neither expected the crowd to react with such fury.

The issue is that Babasha is Rom and plays Manele music, a music that  many Romanians associate with criminality. He was booed.

The atmosphere of the ancient Jerusalem Synagogue in Prague turned into a treasure house of Romani and classical music for one evening on 5/29/2024. This unique fusion was performed by the group Lavutari di Praga, led by violin virtuoso Ivan Herák.

Thursday evening at the 26th edition of the Khamoro festival in the Prague club La Fabrika belonged to traditional Roma rhythms. In addition to Ame Roma from Latvia and Ciganos d’Ouro from Portugal, the visitors were also introduced to the classical dulcimer Erika Holuba from the Czech Republic. This recently formed group brings together leading Roma musicians who have been working together for many years on various events.

On April 30, 2024, the final press conference for the “Culture Breaks Borders” project implemented by I Am The Sound s.r.o. was held in Přerov. The main goal of the two-year project, supported by the EEA and Norway Funds, was to strengthen the business of Roma music artists in the Czech music and culture industry.
