The residents of the village of Wileroltigen in the Canton Bern protested in front of the Bern parliament to protest against camping sites for travellers in the canton.

The Swiss have a strong tendency on focusing on the dirt and especially on the excrement left over when Travellers are around or leave a camp… And now this – the very same people spread excrements and manure on the place that Roma were to be using as a camping site…

The holidays are over in France. A lot of news in the press about Roma.
First, near Paris, a new Roma camp was opened on the future site of the Paris St. Germain Football club training site, resulting in many articles; then, the camp on the former train tracks of the Petite Ceinture will again be dismantled (again); near Paris, a camp was dismantled in the Essone; and again near Paris, Roma left a mess behind after having left their camp.
In the North of France, a camp was closed and dismantled near Lille, and another one is “disturbing” the reconstruction of a church. Disturbingly, in the North, an article stating that Roms are Romanian beggars while Travellers are the locals …
Finally, in Western France an illegal camp angers residents and in Angers, Roma will be expulsed for the 24th time!

A new Tory MP for Moray, UK, is severely biased against travellers are Roma. He apologised for saying that dealing with travellers “would be a number one priority as prime minister” but continued to state that [roadside encampments] are a “blight on our community” and current laws and protections make it difficult to get “get rid of them”.
One can only wonder what he meant by “getting rid of them” …

The planned march against a camping site for travellers in the village of Wileroltigen was cancelled amid concerns that it would attract many extremists, would be too dangerous and expensive.
This follows a long campaign by the village that was borderline racist and definitively stereotyping Roma.

The proposal to have a place for Roma travellers in the village of Wileroltigen in the Canto of Aargau, the opposition is rising. They are planning a march to show their opposition, and the racist overtones of the slogans and the stereotypes they use are not to be underestimated. The march will take place on the 14th of August.
