Few news this week… A camp dismantled in St. Brice sous Forêt; 20 Rroma expulsed in Argenteuil; a camp being closed in Carquefou; polemic between towns in the Nantes agglomeration on Rroma being pushed from one to the other; 54 Rroma expulsed in Villeurbanne near Lyon; and finally, a denial there is a policy against mendacity in Toulouse.

Expulsions from France

Close to 2’600 Rroma have already been expulsed from their housing in France in 2016. The Human Right Council is condemning French policy of the Bulldozer.

Bad … But let’s put things in relation : The press speaks about less than 15’000 Rroma. Out of at least half a million in France. Is it representative?

Amnesty International and the Czechs

Amnesty International reported discrimination, racism and abuses in the Czech Republic against Rroma. The Czech education ministry who was stated a violating the children human’s rights filed a complaint with the police. The Czech prosecutor found no reason to push for an indictment but nevertheless slammed the report …

The story of the Rroma musicians from Kosovo fighting discrimination is doing the rounds! Good and a good reminder that Rroma were ethnically cleansed away from Kosovo.

Czech Republic, Refugees, and History

Upon the visit of Bohuslav Sobotka, the Czech Prime Minister, some thoughts as to why the Czechs are so much against refugees (and against Rroma). Interesting read but sad… And that country is very much racist when it comes to Rroma.

Theatre Project with Rroma

A new theatre project “Hass” – [Hate] about the life of Rroma and Sinti in Germany, loosely based on the plot or themses a Matthieu Kassovitz movie of the same name will be shown on March 16th in Cologne, Germany.

Kosovo: Musicians against Prejudice

Some Rroma musicians in Kosovo are using music to fight the prejudices they are facing as Rroma in Kosovo. That country, although it had one of the highest proportion of Rroma in the Balkan has been ethnically cleaned. Only ca. 25’000 Rroma remain, less that 10% of the original population.

Travelers: Camp in Basle – Switzerland

Travelers will finally have a place to stay in Basle Switzerland. A new place when they can stay overnight or for longer periods will open soon and will be run by the Association of Swiss Sinti and Roma.

UK: Metropolitan Police to Reopen Investigation

The metropolitan police has been asked to re-open the enquiry about racist abuse on a facebook page run by police members.
