An article about Bulgarian Roma. The article is probably well intentioned, but by showcasing a prostitute in Germany who wires 139’000 Euros back to her home contry, contributes to perpetuate negative stereotypes.

Bulgaria: Manifestations
The Bulgarian city of Asenovgrad, in the South central part of the country, saw a huge manifestation by resident against Roma. They are protesting the “illegal” residence of Roma and their “criminal” activities.
Needless to say that the illegal part has to do with the privatisation of the land after communism – Roma have been there since the Byzantine times, and the criminal activities, if any are not related to ethnicity but to poverty.

Germany and Refugees
A report on by the German Press reports that there are more refugees arriving in Germany than in the whole of Europe … Responsible are internal European Refugees – a lot of them Rroma, according to this short report (not necessarily explicitly named – Bulgarians and Romanians are stated here – but who from these countries requests asylum?)

Bulgaria, Babies, and Rroma
Traffickers in new-borns have been condemned to heavy prison sentences (10 years for two men, and 5 years for one women). They were accused to have brought pregnant women to Greece for the purpose of adoption of their child at birth. The babies were sold for up to 15’000 Euros.
Many of the mothers came from Rroma ghettos. The condemned, though, seem to have been Bulgarian (otherwise, chances are this would have been said …)

Again one AfD member shows the true colours of that German Party. He is being sued by Roma and Sinti organisations for racism after having posted a post on Facebook stating „Kann es sein, daß wir ein Zigeunerproblem haben?“ – [can it be that we have a Gypsy problem]…The post continued on the increased criminality that came as the result of the migration of Romanian and Bulgarian Rroma.

France: A Different Story
For once a more positive story in France of a Rrom from Bulgaria who now works for the municipality. This simply shows that instead of chasing them again and again, France could easily absorb these ca. 25 thousand Rroma.

Germany and Social Help
A new proposal for the dispensation of social help in Germany requires that the applicants have worked before in Germany. This in spite of EU law. If EU citizen fail to find work, they will have some help for ca 6 weeks and then nothing.
This is a measure that is aimed at keeping Romanians and Bulgarians (Rroma in most minds) from “abusing” the system – something they anyhow don’t do. Numbers are small.

The case of a 13 years old Rroma girl who gave birth raised the Rroma issue again in Bulgaria. As usual, on the wrong reasons … Teenage pregnancies are highly correlated to poverty and lack of education, not to cultural traits.

Berlin, the Subway, and Rroma
The person who kicked a young woman down the stairs in Berlin has been identified. He is unfortunately a Rrom from Bulgaria. He is definitively a criminal, and deserves a penalty, but it seems that the papers are more concerned about his ethnicity rather than the facts.

An article about the rise of hate speech in Bulgaria, especially against minorities such as the Rroma, the Turks, and the Pomaks. Rroma are by far the most vilified minority currently online in Bulgaria.

France and Prostitution …
The case of Bulgarian Rroma who prostituted their children is making the headlines. Worse, it makes Rroma really look bad in a country where the press has a tendency to generalise.
They came off lightly, actually, way too lightly.

Bulgaria: Murder
The murderer of a Rroma couple in the town of Pazardzhik is saying he would do it again. He killed the couple with a knife.

Lots of expulsions in the region around Paris. This in spite of the winter and the normal winter pause of such evictions. In Seine et Marne, a large Rroma camp was cleared; 5 camps were cleared in the Essonnes department, for example in Tarterêts; another camp in the Yvelines was also closed; several people were evicted in Argenteuil and stood in front of the St. Denis Basilique in protest; in Montreuil, the families evicted in July still have found no housing; in Coflans St. Honorine, near Paris, Rroma travellers squatted the schoolyard of a local high-school; in Ivry, an association celebrated their work for Rroma; some ecologist activists helped clean up a camp of Rroma travellers; in Lyon, two families were evicted; and near Bordaux, Bulgarian Rroma are accused of having prostituted their children.

The Gatestone institute wrote a piece on “no go zones” in Germany, and managed to pack a bunch of nasty and totally inacceptable stereotypes in the process… Totally beyonf the point. For example: “thousands of Bulgarians and Romanians (including Sinti and Roma “gypsies”) have flocked to Duisburg”, Sinti are locals, and the thousands are not there; “New migrants from Bulgaria and Romania are adding to the problems”, what problems, if not the ones of the journalist; this mixed with factual reporting such as “At night, Romanian residents dance on the streets, the sound system in the car supplies loud music” taken from the German Press.
Well, this article is full of stereotypes and is BAD!!!

More of the same, in spite of the nearing winter. 600 Rroma displaced by the closure of a camp n St. Ouen near Paris; 100 other Rroma threatened with eviction from their camp near Vigneux sur Seine, close to Paris; a large controversy in the North of France with a mayor publishing statistics based on ethnicity (FORBIDDEN in France), stating that nearly 1’000 live in Denain; a recourse in Roubaix to prevent the destruction of a camp; various associations in Roubaix are protesting the expulsions of Rroma in that city; a positive news in the North with the education of migrant children, Rroma amongst them; another positive note in Nantes, with a shared lunch for migrants; tensions in the South West over squats, especially from Bulgarian Rroma; conflict in Béziers, in the South West of France between the mayor (very much anti-migrant) and associations over the closure of a room that, according to the mayor, was used as an illegal mailbox for migrants and Rroma; and finally, a fire in a camp near Montpellier.
