Hungary: Rroma Prevented from Boarding

The Canadians are continuing their policy of denying Rroma boarding to flights from Hungary to Canada. All the while while they are slowly acknowledging that persecutions of this minority do exist in Hungary. Rroma NGos are asking for a refund from the airlines. With right!

Read this… Badly thought arguments, and the way against them on the refugee crisis. The paragraph on Rroma is particularly scary: The argument goes as follows: Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria have not managed to integrated their Rroma, so they cannot take on any refugees.

The right way to say it: Nationalistic policies have tried to ethnicise and segregate minorities, and these have failed. Has nothing to do with refugees, and all to do with tolerance.

Miskolc: Forced evictions of Rroma continue

In spite of a supreme court ruling and of international criticism, Rroma are still being evicted in Miskolc, Hungary. These are not slums, but actual houses, and Rroma are evicted to make space of a football stadium and parking. They are evicted and not given any alternatives.

Ozd, Hungary: Far right mayor and Rroma

The Jobbik (far right party) mayor of Ozd, in Hungary is taking a tough stance on Rroma, accusing them of, in their large majority, of being destructive. These populist statements, coupled with de-facto slave labour (Közmunca) where a majority of Rroma are forced to toil in 19^th century fashion, are not going to resolve the problem of unemployment in the Hungarian countryside. By the way, everyone is out of a job in the countryside. Not only Rroma. And 3 Mio people live under the poverty level, not all Rroma.

EC sees “some progress” in Rroma integration

According to the European commission, EU member countries have made some progress on Rroma integration in the last year. We really do wonder where… Certainly not in Bulgaria, in Hungary, in Romania, all countries where the pendulum is swinging the other way around. And Western Europe is not much better, see France, England etc.

Council of Europe condemns Hungary

Hungary has been chided by the Council of Europe due to the common and open racism against the Rroma minority of Hungary. According to the report, racism is not restricted to the extreme right party Jobbik, but is commonplace in the country and in the press.

Propaganda on Work in Hungary

According to Hungary today, more and more Rroma have now a job in Hungary. The spokesman of human resource ministry stated that “the rate of Roma living in households categorised as “low work intensity” dropped from 48% in 2009 to 26% by 2014”

Well, never believe in statistics. This at best the result of forcing people into the so-called “Közmunka” – communal work, which is not really paid at all and which certainly doesn’t allow people a decent living. True unemployment in the countryside is unfortunately almost close to affecting all, be they Rroma or Hungarians.
