Two attacks of a Roma settlement in Poznan. Stone thrown at houses, broken windows, broken doors, and the police thinks the attacks are not racially motivated…

So far 18 people have caught measles in a Roma camp in the Polish city of Poznan. There are roughly 80 people living in this camp.

On 22 July 2015 the city of Wrocław levelled the Roma settlement in ul. Paprotna. At the moment of demolition, the settlement consisted of five buildings. Families (adults and children) had been living in these houses since 2009. A complaint to the ECHR was filed in early 2016.

The Roma complainants did not know about the planned demolition of their homes. On the morning of July 22, they left their homes and they were demolished. Consequently, they lost their home and belongings. Some items (such as applaiances and stoves) were misappropriated, and the remaining property, including documents and medicines, was levelled to the ground and dumped into the nearby rubbish dump with the rubble.

The European Court of Human Rights is investigating the case and has send a series of questions to the Polish government.

An example of what can be found in the Polish press… The account of an aggression of a woman by a “horde” or angry Roma, the poor woman just wanted to bring her car to the garage and parked it near the Roma housing estate.
This is more a reflection of the tensions in some part of Poland nowadays.

A reportage on the police finding on an attempted attack against Roma in Zabrze, near Katowice in Southern Poland. The perpetrators of this attack which occurred end of March are hooligans well known to the police.
Nice the police acted. Not always the case in Poland.

The town of Andrychow, is South Western Poland, definitively doesn’t want Rroma. The reportage is quite clear – and shows extensive prejudice against Rroma there.

The case of the resettlement of the Rroma from Limanowa is now in front of the courts. The municipality of Limanowa tried to move the Rroma living in a building that is close to collapse in the centre of the town to another house in another village … The resident of this other village tried to stop the move too.
In brief, they were simply trying to get rid of Rroma …

On Friday evening, a gang of about 40 men attacked Rroma in the city of Katowice in Silesia.
Several of the men were arrested by the police. Several Rroma were beaten up with baseball bats.

The Limanowa Municipality voted against the extension of a Rroma housing project in a Rroma settlement. This project is sponsored by the governor of the region and was suppose to lodge several families in a new housing block.

As the Polish state is currently not helping, Gdansk, Poznan, and Wroclaw has initiated a project and a discussion on Rroma integration. They are particularly concentrating on Rroma without residency papers and on those who live in appalling conditions on the edges of the cities.

Masked men are threatening Rroma in Zabrze, near Katowice. Then men for example forbid Roma youth use the gym and sports halls. They are a de facto that is hostile to Rroma. Several incidents took place, and were reported to the police who said they are taking those incidents seriously.

The results of the survey on foreigners and minorities in Poland are slowly coming to the west. This study shows that more than 50% of the Poles regard Rroma negatively.
