At the third gathering of the Romanipen Literary Club, held on August 24 at the Center for Creative Joy in Novi Sad, the members discussed the works of the two most famous Roma poets – Bronislawa Wajs Papusza and Slobodan Berberski. These two authors, although close in terms of the time in which they lived, represent different approaches to poetry, which was the central topic of discussion at this gathering.

Roma from Apatin once again proved that they are great hosts. They held a spectacular “Roma night”. The streets were filled with people, the gates and yards were wide open, and the sounds of music and laughter echoed through the settlement.  The main venue was full, while the sounds of songs and dances of barefoot children rang out from the stage, creating a unique atmosphere.

Serbia and Child Marriage

A seminar for representatives of local institutions on the topic of Child, early and forced marriages was held in Vranje, within the framework of the Roma women’s activism project in the protection of Roma girls from violence caused by child marriages.

The goal of the project is to reduce the number of child marriages in the Roma community in Serbia, that is, to protect the human rights of Roma girls, as well as to raise awareness that child marriages are not part of Roma culture.

One of the key problems faced by Roma in media across Europe is the lack of young Roma who want to engage in journalism. According to the article, Serbia is leading the way with many young Roma engaged in Journalism.

Novi Sad Roma Ball

The Novi Sad Roma Ball will be held on Tuesday, May 28, starting at 8 p.m., at the “Vila Moskva” hotel. Every year, the Roma association “Bela Romkinja” organizes a traditional Roma ball.

This year, in addition to the main event, a humanitarian evening will be organized, where packages will be made from the money collected and sent to help families in the Bangladesh settlement whose houses were destroyed by fire.
