Council of Europe Slams Czechs and Slovaks for Segregation and Discrimination

The council of Europe human rights’ watchdog, Niels Mužnieks slammed Slovakia and the Czech Republic for the segregation and discriminations in schools for Rroma. These countries are continuing to place Rroma children in “special schools”, often for mentally disabled children. They also criticised the physical violence against Rroma by the police in Slovakai as well as other segregating and discriminating actions in those countries.

Shame on them!

Police was attacked when they went into a camp near Kosiče, in Slovakia where they were called by paramedics following a fight within the camp. This is not the first time, and follows a pattern. The Slovak police is known for its heavy handed practices as well as for its bias against Rroma.

The UK press and of course also the Slovak are having a field day after a Rroma gang who had been trafficking young Rroam women from Slovakia to the UK was condemned.

Once again, the deed of a few Rroma is taken as a sign that the entire minority is in fact criminal. This is surely not the case, but is always presented as such in the Press.

Clash between police and Rroma in Slovakia

There was a clash between police and Rroma in a Rroma settlement near Kosice in the East of the country. The police claims they were attacked by around 200 Rroma. The Rroma version is of course different. They say the police beat up a man sleeping outside. The truth will never fully be known, but the track record of the Police in Slovakia is bad.

Expulsions and hard rules in Slovakia

The town of Banovce in Slovakia is implementing hard rules against the Rroma minority: If a family breaks public order or housing rules three times, it will be expulsed. These measures are meant to “protect” decent people from the noise and nuisance of the Rroma. In fact, this is an expulsion measure and as such cannot be tolerated.
