The Ukrainian police announced at last that they have identified suspects in the violent closing of a Roma camp in Kiev on April 21st.
They had trouble explaining what took them so long with the number of videos produced by the criminals themselves …

A new video of an attack against Roma – this time arson – surfaced in Ukraine. This shortly after the Pogrom that was widely commented. Here, people are seen setting fire to a flat in a privately owned house occupied by Roma.

C14, the group that attacked the Roma camp in Kiev last week originally posted photos on Facebook claiming that they had simply gone to the site to collect garbage. Only later did the videos of the attacks emerge, some of them posted by C14th members.

Another report of the attack in Kiev last week. The police is now “reacting” but of course where nowhere to be seen when it happened.

The police in Kiev finally acted. After having done nothing during the pogrom, they have no opened a criminal investigation …

Representatives of the nationalist organization C14 drove the Roma out of the camp on the Bald Mountain in Kiev and burnt their tents and belongings. Law enforcers did not react in any way.
According to the Roma, things did not go so smoothly. The Roma from the camp told us that the nationalists from C14 threatened them with knives, stones, and even pistols. As the “Gromadske radio” reports, all Roma families have now returned to Transcarpathia.
So far, only Ukrainian and Slovak Media have reported this event.

Terrible article on Roma in Kiev who are allegedly “flooding” the city and stealing its citizen, all coupled with a total police inactivity. The Roma camp in the railway station, sleeping in the waiting rooms.
This is bad for all.

Following the theft of a mobile phone in a bus in Kiev, a massive brawl started and a group of Roma was literally beaten up in the bus. This was followed in Facebook and on other social media. The fight started in trolleybus No. 30, which was moving along the route “Miloslavskaya – Kadetsky gai”, Kievite Elena Mashuk wrote in the Facebook group “Solomensky district”. “Today they beat the gypsies on the route of trolley bus No. 30 after they took the phone from my sister.”. In comments to her post, social network users supported the beaters: “They did it right”, “It’s high time”, “I hope they broke their hands”.

The Ukrainian city of Pavlovgrad in the East of the country is being lauded for its action towards its Roma minority and its support of the Roma association “Amaro Kher”.
Good, but frankly, the situation in Ukraine is not that good for Roma.

An article about volunteers helping homeless and Roma in Kiev. Nice, but actually disturbing: A state of life, i.e. being homeless is cobbled together with a minority. This amalgamation is dangerous as it perpetuates clichés about the minority.
It would have been simple to say “homeless” and add “and among them some Roma” …

Another article in the Press on Roma criminality. According to the article, residents of Kiev complain massively about Roma who “steal everything they see” …
How about complaining about some of the politicians and oligarchs who effectively already stole everything there was to steal?

In spite of the police statement that the number of thefts has decreased, many residents in Kiev hold Roma responsible. They say that the fines that are imposed for theft do not deter crime.
Bad that Roma are singled out without any proof.

An article on the fate of the Roma who were expelled from their houses in a pogrom in the Odessa region following the murder of a young girl in August 2016. These Roma never returned home, as they would not be accepted back in their village.
The Police actually evicted all Roma from the village. These went to court and with great difficulties, managed to have a criminal case opened, also against the police. The case is proceeding. Let’s see what happens.
