Seems that most of the news is centred around Nantes in Western France this week: Reflections on the camps and what to do with them, a camp that is threatened, and a clean-up that has not yet been done. In Lilles, there is no will to actually resolve the issue of the Roma camps. Near Paris, a camp has been burning while another was abandoned before an announced closure. In Montpellier, a camp that was not yet closed makes the headlines, while in Eastern France, the press warns against a “false” accident con trick that involves Roma.

Finally, an article on fake news using the picture of the petite ceinture camp near Paris (losed a long while back) but with interesting statistics on people living in camps.

Not surprising in view of the current protests in France, the Roma are not on the front pages…
First, two occasions to see the documentary “8 Avenue Lenine” in Paris. Not to be missed.
Then, the usual litany: Annecy pondering whether to close a camp or first find a decent lodging for its residents (really????); in Grenoble, 15 families are threatened with expulsion; and in the Vosges, a family is expulsed, and alternate lodgement is refused (which is illegal in France).

Near Paris, a sordid affair of rape and prostitution with three Roma pimps; and, also near Paris, a squat will be closed. And finally, near Grenoble, a piece of land has been requisitioned to lodge (?) Roma.

If there are news in France, Roma are no news … This is clearly the case this week. There are literally no articles in the French press on Roma:
A traffic of luxury cars in the north, with the petty criminals living in a Roma camp; a pickpocket in Montpellier expelled from France for three years; and a camp expulsion on hold in Grenoble.

Very few news on Roma this week in France. Probably due to a more animated political scene in the country at this stage.
First, a video on Roma and their history – no comments on the history ! – showing all these news in France are about less than 16’000 people! In Grenoble, people went to court over the right for lodging while in Fontaine, near Grenoble, as well as in Annecy, two Roma camps are threatened with closure. Finally, in the North, in Lille, people living in camps will be given cheaper passes on public transports.
