Another slow week – actually this is the best news that one can hope. If the trend continues, we will have to discontinue the French chronicle, started at the height of the Valls era. We will keep an eye to see whether this is a real trend or just a lull before the storm.

Unfortunately, more news on Roma this week in France. But it starts well. The French state is condemned for an illegal expulsion near Paris. Also near Paris, a squat will be demolished; in Melun, Roma will have to leave the old hospital in which they have been living for a long time; a club suspends its activities due to the presence of a new Roma camp; and a more positive prize for architecture of social housing for Roma. In Strasbourg, a Rom died electrocuted in a migrant centre. In Angers, in Western France, a squat isn’t sure of its fate.

Do we have a trend? Less and less news about Roma. The most prominent one was that they also resisted against the Nazis.
Unfortunately, the other one is that the government is cutting the water to a Roma camp. And finally, article about caravans being dumped on private land near Paris.

Not many news this week on Roma. In the North, the headline asks what alternatives there are to shantytowns. Warranted question in France, where the very same 20’000 people get pushed from one to the next precarious lodging. Then, a camp closure in Lille; an aggression of firemen as they came to the rescue of a person in a Roma camp in Montpellier (Bad); in Lyon, an expulsion ith the expulsed people squatting in a square; and finally in Lyon, the insertion village closure, after a really successful period seing all the Roma having found a job an housing.

An interesting reportage showing that the French Gitans – Catalan Roma in this case are being quietly expulsed from the parts of the town where they have lived for a very long time. This is definitively not advertised in France …
