A new novel by the German Author Heiko Haumann tells the story of a Rromni during the Nazi period in Germany and the aftermath.
Good that this is being dealt with in Germany! Other countries would do well to dwell on this period of history.

20 years ago, following a long struggle, the Documentation Centre for Sinti and Roma opened its doors.

Another portrait and exhibition of the Holocaust survivor and painter Ceija Stojka. Her works are on exhibition in the gallery “Kai Dikhas” in Berlin until April 1st.

The German state of Thürigen followed the lead of other German regions and now protects the graves of Rroma and Sinti holocaust victims. Many of thé families of these victims cannot afford the yearly fee and thus according to German customs, the graves would have been removed 25 years after the death of the person.
Good that those who survived the holocaust can rest in peace.

Local Roma and Sinti organisation from Hessen sharply criticised the relocation policies of the city of Frankfurt. The city relocated Rroma from a slum into a state sponsored housing.
And they put 39 people in three rooms … With one shower.

The theatre piece “Gypsies” in making waves in Germany. It is based on Interview with Rroma and is controversial. The title of this article is controversial too although it may be an attempt at highlighting stereotypes.

A theatre representation in Germany attempts to address stereotypes on Rroma but nevertheless presents some of them, namely in this case music. The interview of the musicians saves the article, but again, the voice of one is valid for all Rroma.

The Central Council of Sinti and Roma in Germany issued a statement about the Berlin Festival and the movie on Django Reinhardt’s life.
They greeted the release of this movie and the fact that it was shown at the opening of the festival, stating that the festival gave a strong signal that the situation of minorities always reflects the situation of the society at large.

A new association for Rroma and Sinti in Augsburg has been created and is being officially presented at the town hall. The organisation wants to promote the culture, combat discrimination and stereotypes, and remember the victims of the Holocaust.

A new term “Gruppenbezogene Meschenfeindlichkeit” – meaning roughly “Group related human hostility” is making the rounds in Germany.
What it means is simply racism against minorities. And the article points it out, 25% of Germans are against Rroma and Sinti.

The movie on Django Reinhard’s life opened at the Berlin Film festival, with some mixed critiques. During the opening, Rroma and the Holocaust were prominently cited, and comparisons with current times were made.
