In spite of promises from the municipality and its Five Stars Mayor, Rome is ready to open a new Rroma camp on its outskirts “as a temporary measure” …
On March 7th, the Welfare Department has approved a measure aimed at identifying a new “picnic area” (SIC!) intended to “welcome and provide a staying possibility for 120 Roma families “, with a “service management”. In practice it is a new settlement to replace the current “Camping River”, in which there are 420 people, for which management services will expire on June 30 of this year.

A judge stroke down the arrest of 4 Rromnja during a raid in Palermo on a Rroma camp. The women were separated from their husband and children and sent to Rome for deportation. Even though they had been in Italy for more than 20 years and two of them were born there…
Really??? Thanks to the judge in any case.

A very large number of articles in the Italian press reported the confiscation of 30 Mio EUR of assets from 5 Sinti families in the Lazio region. According to the news, these families had created a criminal ring.

As usual, these articles stress the criminality of such occupations, not the need for lodging.

More on the saga of the camps in Rome. Now the plan for the closure (and not the closure) will be ready by the end of the month… What is so complicated?
And by the way, the state gives out 23 Mio EUR for these camps per year, this for ca. 5’000 Rroma. Close to 5’000 EUR per head.
Someone is making money there.

A scathing critique of the plans of the 5 Stars’ mayor of Rome plans for Rroma in the capital. Raggi’s plans disregard accepted principles in dealing with Rroma, are far from complete and in parts renege on promises and statements.

As part of its activities, the Association of the Roma Nation (ANR), has convened a public meeting on Rome and Rroma and on the respect of the agreements with the EU following the December 16th resolution no. 117 of the Capitoline council establishing a Roma and Sinti Consultative body (RSC). The NRA invite the mayor of Rome Virginia Raggi as well as several other councillors.
On December 30, 2016, Marcello Zuinisi, the legal representative of the ANR, has filed a complaint with the Public Prosecutor at the Ordinary Court of Rome, directly into the hands of the Chief Prosecutor, Dr. Giuseppe Pignatone regarding the gestion and need for closure of the Rroma camps.

In spite of promises and words, it seems that the policies of the new mayor of Rome, Virgina Raggi, are not going to resolve integration issues for Rroma in the city anytime soon… The main proposal is now a round table on integration.

Seems that things are now getting serious. Camps will be closed by the 31 of January. Or not? This is not the first attempt to close the camps …

Italy was literally slammed by the UN for its treatment of Rroma, especially for its camps. The UN says “close the camps and give them lodgings” …
It is true, this is a disgrace.

A bit of controversy on Raggi’s first budget in Rome. Vegans, Rroma, etc. For Rroma, 7 Mio were set aside. But … These will go in part to fund the camps around the capital. Bad.

Yes, the municipality of Rome wants to close the Rroma camps… But continues to fund them. Rather odd, were it not for the spider web of corruption around these camps.

Rroma are being investigated in the death of a Chinese student who was run over by a train while chasing people who had stolen his bag.
