Italian Rroma will be walking along the ANPI procession in Rome on 25 April, a march of the Partisans commemorating the resistance in Italy. The Rroma are an integral part of Italy, having been there more than 700 years, and are still facing discrimination in that country.

Finally, the integration plan of Rome’s mayor, Virginia Raggi has been unveiled. And there is quite a bit of critique against it. The Association “July 21st” has criticised the plan in a press conference, denouncing weaknesses and contradictions. The main issues are: The plan only covers a tiny minority of the Rroma in the city and the plan to put the Rroma in some separate settlement which would rapidly turn into a ghetto.

On March 7th, the Welfare Department has approved a measure aimed at identifying a new “picnic area” (SIC!) intended to “welcome and provide a staying possibility for 120 Roma families “, with a “service management”. In practice it is a new settlement to replace the current “Camping River”, in which there are 420 people, for which management services will expire on June 30 of this year.

A judge stroke down the arrest of 4 Rromnja during a raid in Palermo on a Rroma camp. The women were separated from their husband and children and sent to Rome for deportation. Even though they had been in Italy for more than 20 years and two of them were born there…

And by the way, the state gives out 23 Mio EUR for these camps per year, this for ca. 5’000 Rroma. Close to 5’000 EUR per head.
