The author of one of the very important books on the Rroma and Sinti Holocaust (Wo sind sie hingekommen?: die unterschlagene Völkermord an den Sinti und Roma) spoke about a forgotten Sinti child who ended up in Auschwitz.

A background article on the facts behind the eviction (and arrest) of the Rroma who took refuge in a parish house following their occupation of the Regensburg Cathedral. The role of the church is definitively open to critique.
In Regensburg, the Rroma who initially occupied the cathedral and then accepted to move to a parish house have left that parish house. Tow of them, one from Kosovo and the other from Macedonia who are under an expulsion order have been arrested. The rest of the refugees have been handed over to the various authorities in charge of refugees. They most probably will also be deported at some point due to the “safe country” policies of Germany.

The Dom (plural Domari), who are related to Rroma, stemming from the same Indian migration as them bu having remained in the Middle East instead of moving to the Balkans, are victims of the Syrian War. They are being killed by the Daech, and none of the current factions is really for them. Very much like the Syriac (Aramaic speaking Christians) or the Yazidi, they are the target of the extremists.

One of the oldest camping spot for Sinti and Rroma in the city of Hamburg, opened in the 1990’s is being closed to make room for newly arrived refugees. No alternative has yet been offered to the Rroma.

Not much in terms of Rroma news in France – must be the result of the Olympic games and a few other prominent news.
What there is, is mainly about the evacuation of the Montreuil camp, near Paris with politicians an activists helping Rroma; about dozens of animals that were abandoned by Rroma when they were forced to leave a camp near Toulouse – bear in mind, they were forced to go, they did not leave by themselves, so whose fault is it? – and finally, also in the South near Montpellier, a fire started at a Rroma camp.
An Austrian Bishop took part to the memorial of Austrian Rroma murdered in Poland. Just missing the fact that the Austrians were actively involved. His other words about integration, stopping prejudice, are the right ones, and not often heard from the Church.
Another iteration of the yoyo in the Lakatos case in Canada: The deportation order was cancelled by the Canadian Border Service. No reasons given.
Some Rroma women are taking the initiative and cooking their way out of the camps they are still parked in around the city. They formed a catering company called the “Gypsy Queens”.

An interview of the 17 years old Gilda Lakatos who is set to be deported next week back to Hungary.
Today’s the day to remember the Rroma victims of the Holocaust. May they rest in peace.
A humanitarian application has been deposed for the Lakatos family who is due to be deported on August 11. Advocacy groups are urging the government to consider this application prior to this date.
A more positive twist in France: Volunteers are spending time with children in a Rroma camp near Paris, and are organising activities for the Rroma children.

Less news on the front page means more on Rroma in the French Press. First, in the South, were legality seems not to be high on the priorities of the state in Montpellier. In that same city, residents are “exasperated” by a camp there. In Montaucran, in the South, a camp was closed; near Paris, two reportages on life in the camps; in Montreuil, camps are being dismantled; in Lyon, a report on the situation of Rroma in that city; in the North the mayor od a twon is accused of racism following the arson attack against a shop for Romanians and especially Rroma, while also in the North, a pedophile was targeting Rroma children.
The shooting in the Munich shopping mall also made some Rroma victims: 3 confirmed deaths. Two were Sinti, and one from the Kosovo.
