Not much this week either in France about Roma. Near Paris, Roma in a small camp are facing insults and threats; in Toulouse, another edition of Rencont’roms is planned for mid-November; and finally, an article on pickpockets in Nice, some of which are Romnja.
Criminal charges were filed against the city of Hannover for discrimination against Sinti and Roma.
The Romanes of the Sinti is closely interwoven with the Koblenz subculture. As kickboxing world champion, Marlon Reinhardt often lets his fists do the talking. But the 32-year-old is also intensively involved in the Sinti community.
The City of Hannover has admitted that they discriminated against Roma for years.

Not the effect that was planed. Other news are more of the usual: fires in Roma camps near Paris which are fake news; a caravan exhibition against discrimination near Paris; anger with neighbours near Marseilles; and an unusual reflection that closing camps doesn’t solve the issue in Bordeaux.
The Roma activist Gianni Jovanovic states it clearly: Cologne is not really a tolerant city.

Almost nothing this week about Roma in the French Press. An article about racism that mentions that in France, it is mainly directed at Roma and North Africans; repeated fires in a Roma camp near Paris; and finally, travellers camping outside designated areas near Metz.
Almost five years ago, the Dresden city council decided to create a monument to the Sinti boxing legend Johann Wilhelm Trollmann so that it would receive more attention. He was killed by the Nazis.
To this date ,nothing has happened.

Well, another old German crooner sings songs that at best can be described as out of fashion, and at worst, borderline racist. In this case, one example is the song “Lustig ist das Zigeunerleben” [Gypsy life is funny].

Apparently, there is a recent influx in Germany of Roma with brand new Ukrainian passports but who also have Hungarian passports asking for asylum. No one seems to know whether they are Ukrainian or Hungarian, and they speak Hungarian.
The most prosaic answer to this is that they are most probably from Transcarpathian Ukraine, and that thanks to the Hungarian Prime Minister, they were able to get a Hungarian passport as Hungarian speakers living abroad. Orban did grant Hungarian citizenship to Hungarian speakers outside of the country since quite a while.
They are fighting against racism.
