Not much this week in France. A book on Roma by Nicolas Clément, a volunteer at the Secours Catholique, with the title: “Precariousness for all luggage. Another look at the Roma” (Editions de l’Atelier). As usual, unfortunately, this reinforces the stereotype that all Roma are poor and other stereotypes. Not good.
Other news include the upcoming closure of a squat in Marseilles and the closure of a camp near Nantes.

Well, unfortunately, not much is done about it in Germany, at least not on the internet.
An interview with Mehmet Daimagüler is Germany’s first commissioner for combating discrimination against Sinti and Roma.
The Baranka Park commemoration took place for the 14th time last Saturday. The association “Voice of Diversity” organises these to commemorate the Roma and Sinti victims of National Socialism and to celebrate and convey the life and culture of the Roma and Sinti as well as Jewish and Viennese culture.

Not much news on Roma this week. The upcoming pilgrimage of Saintes Marie de la Mer; the inauguration of the transition village in Montpellier and the fate of Roma from a camp that burnt in Aix en Provence in the South; and two articles on neighbours complaining about new Roma camps in their neighbourhood near Paris.
There are not enough camping sites for Travellers in the UK, resulting in tensions when they pitch camp in other areas.
Not all is rosy for minorities, and the Council of Europe suggests measures are needed to combat hate speech, especially against Roma and Tattare (the name of the autochthonous Roma group).
The mayor of Gallarate, a town not far from Milan was brought to court by Roma families who accuse him of defamation, as he openly said they were a bunch of thieves. It is part of a longer battle between the mayor and the Roma, as the mayor tried to evict them, and was forced to restore services he had cut off by a court in Milan.
Deportations of Sinti and Roma started on the 16th of May 1940. Commemorations were held in several German Länder.
