A project by the Polish-Romani artist Małgorzata Mirga-Tas was inaugurated in the Polish pavilion at the 59th Venice Biennale. For the first time in the over 120-year history of the Biennale, the national pavilion is represented by a Roma artist. The pavilion opening ceremony was attended by: Undersecretary of State in the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage Wanda Zwinogrodzka, director of the Adam Mickiewicz Institute Barbara Schabowska and director of Zachęta Janusz Janowski.

A debate on the difficulties of integration for Roma. Unfortunately, with the usual stereotypes of 80% of the Roma being poor, travelling, uneducated, etc. all the while saying there are 12 millions of them, which, if they all corresponded to the stereotypes would be much more visible.

Germany: Anti-Roma Crimes

The number of crimes committed against Sinti and Roma fell slightly last year for the first time since systematic recording began in 2017. The authorities reported 109 so-called Roma crimes for the past year – 18 percent fewer than in 2020 with 133 crimes, according to a response from the Federal Ministry of the Interior to a request from the Left Movement reported by the “Neue Osnabrücker Zeitung” (NOZ).
