Not that many news on Roma in France this week. Probably not because of a change of policies, rather still due to a summer pause in the press …
A camp in Lille will be closed on Monday, leaving 134 people without shelter. In Saint Denis, near Paris, a more constructive approach is being taken: Integration and education. And finally in Strasbourg, a squat was closed too.

Plovdiv – “Reportage”

This kind of news is really not positive. Focus making a reportage on Plovdiv, telling that a part of the town is now called “Dortmund”. So far nothing bad, but they put it in relation to the current polemic around children social help that is supposedly abused.
How about saying that many Roma from Plovdiv actually go and work in Germany …

Not many news this week on Roma in France. Doesn’t really mean the expulsion policies are stopped, far from that. In the Lille region, in the North, several camps were closed. The press is now asking and what next? Maybe, they should have asked that before. Still in Lille, there seems to be progress on the integration of Roma, but the paper claims it is “complicated”. Activists are going to court against the expulsions of Roma EU citizen following the camp closures. Near Paris, the commune has finally relented and accepted to provide water to a Roma camp. Finally, In Nantes, Roma are going to court because of an expulsion that did not provide alternate lodgings.
