The European Museum of Roma Culture and History opened its doors at a new location at Štefana Kovača Street 24 in Murska Sobota. The opening was also attended by Minister of Culture Asta Vrečko, who emphasized the importance of preserving Roma cultural heritage and strengthening dialogue in society. The event was prepared by representatives of the Roma Association of Slovenia, the Municipality of Murska Sobota, and the Office of the Government of the Republic of Slovenia for Nationalities.

The second edition of the “Romani Language and Culture” course will begin on March 4th at Sapienza University of Rome. The course aims to offer a comprehensive overview of the language, traditions, and history of the Romani people, with a multidisciplinary approach that combines theory, practice, and critical reflection. Topics covered include Romani grammar, culture and traditions, the Samudaripen (the extermination of Roma and Sinti during Nazi-Fascism), the living conditions of Roma in Europe and Latin America, inclusion policies, the fight against discrimination and hate speech, the struggle for civil rights, and the promotion of a culture of respect and integration.

The eighth edition of the Roma and Sinti Culture Festival concluded Sunday, February 22, at the 10 Settembre 1943 Auditorium in Isenia. The event that combined fashion, music, and artistic competition in the spirit of inclusion and promoted by the Rom In Progress Association with the patronage of the municipal and provincial governments.

The Tajsa Prize, which is awarded annually by the European Roma Institute for Arts and Culture (ERIAC) to outstanding Roma cultural figures, was awarded in Bucharest. This year’s award went to visual artist Selma Selman. The ceremony took place in the representative building of the Romanian Athenaeum, attended by distinguished guests, including the first ever Roma Romanian government minister, Petre-Florin Manole.

The 32nd edition of Amico Rom, an event combining a competition, awards, music, cultural events, and celebrations, will get underway on October 3, 2025. Following the well-attended and moving celebration in memory of the deported Roma and Sinti children held on September 30, this Friday there will be three events in Lanciano: at 10:30 a.m., in the Parco delle Memorie, the solemn ceremony for the Samudaripen (Roma and Sinti genocide) will be held, with the laying of a laurel wreath and speeches by the authorities; At 4:00 pm, the Casa di Conversazione will screen the documentary “A Roma’s Dream,” starring Croatian MP Veljko Kajtazi.

The Citizens’ Association “Roma Center” from Crepaja is organizing the ninth event “Days of Roma Culture in Banat”, which will be held on Friday, August 22, 2025, starting at 7 p.m., in the hall of the Crepaja Local Community.

The theme of this year’s program is “Roma Literature in Vojvodina”, and the guests of the evening will be famous writers Maja Jovanović and Rajko Ranko Jovanović.

The Moravian-Silesian Region has increased funds for supporting cultural activities in the region by almost 3 million crowns (121500 euros).

This will contribute to stage readings, a Roma festival or improvisational theatre. “As part of the subsidy program for professional and non-professional activities in the field of culture, the region supported 54 projects in March this year, among which the councillors distributed 11 million crowns. We managed to allocate additional funds for culture, so we will be able to support another 9 interesting events, to which we will contribute a total of 2.8 million crowns. These include, for example, the Improtřesk festival, Sorfest or the multi-genre Roma festival ARA FEST Ostrava,” said Peter Harvánek, the Moravian-Silesian Region Councillor for Culture and Monument Preservation.

In Mursko Središće, large infrastructure projects are underway that will greatly improve the quality of life of citizens and improve capacities for sports, education and social activities, the City reported. Among the most important projects are the energy renovation of the sports hall, the extension of the kindergarten and the construction of the Roma multicultural centre.

 This last project, worth 566,564 euros, is financed from the state budget. The first phase of construction, which includes works “up to the roof”, is also in full swing. The Multicultural Centre will, according to the  City, be an important gathering place for the Roma community and all citizens, providing a space for education, cultural and social activities. The purpose of the centre, they point out, is to enrich the social life of the community and encourage mutual understanding.

We are somewhat sceptical …

It aims to offer a complete overview of the language, traditions and history of the Romani population with a multidisciplinary approach that combines theory, practice and critical reflection. The course is aimed at students of humanities, social sciences and history, but also at anyone who wishes to deepen their knowledge of Romani culture and its current challenges, as well as all those who work in the field of cultural mediation, human rights and social inclusion.

in Skopje, Muharem is deeply attached to Bosnia and Herzegovina, and especially Sarajevo, which he often calls his “soulmate”.

His name is well-known in the former Yugoslavia, where he gained the status of one of the most famous singers, whose music, inspired by Roma and oriental styles, left an indelible mark on the art scene. He released his first album at the age of only 12. He is also an author and he published a translation of the Bible in Romanes.

From November 1 to 3, the 24th BaruvaS meeting took place in Prague. It focused on connecting young Roma with literature and art. The participants took a thematic walk around Žižkov with journalist and writer Patrik Banga, experienced his author’s reading, and the climax of the program was a visit to the performance of Romeo and Juliet at the ABC Theatre in Prague.
