Acts of racism and discrimination against Roma are largely unreported.
This is bad.
Well, looking for a place to stay in Budapest if you are Rom and even if you have a steady job is not easy, if not impossible.
Aleksandar Damjanovic, chairman of NGO Montenegrin Cultural Network, CKM, founded in 2009 to spread loyalty and respect for the country’s state symbols made a blunder: He wanted to include the Roma community in his “Montenegro without division” campaign, but he did not find an adequate costume. Really? 38% of French people think that “Islam is a threat to the identity of France” (compared to 44.7% in 2019) or even 45% think that “the Roma live mainly from theft and trafficking” (48 .2% in 2019).
And 37% think that “Jews have a special relationship with money”, up from two years ago (34.1%).
Even if for Roma and Moslems the numbers are better than last year, this statistic is scary.
Discrimination against Roma and Travellers also involves issues with banking.
Bad.
In the last five years, the number of Roma students has increased three times. These data come from the Croatian Government Office for Human Rights and National Minorities, according to which more and more Roma children remain in the school system. They graduate from university, become lawyers, but often do not find work due to racism.

Stanislav Křeček, the current Czech ombudsman and former ČSSD politician, is, to put it mildly, extravagant. Critics blame him for ignoring his agenda and not understanding it at all. The fight against anti-Roma racism has been declared a state goal in some of Germany’s Laender, and the Federal government also want to act. Victims of this pervasive racism report.
The Advisory Committee of the Council of Europe (CoE) to the Framework Convention for the Protection of National Minorities called on the Slovak authorities to eliminate discrimination against Roma children in education and to improve the mechanism for promoting cultures of national minorities. RE spokesman Jaime Rodríguez informed TASR on Wednesday.
The Czech police finally admitted it: The Czech government rhetoric that they would not support Roma refugees from the Ukraine because most of them have the Hungarian nationality is a lie. According to the police only 150 out of more than 5’000 registered Roma had a Hungarian passport and background.
This is called institutional racism.
A survey conducted by Laura Kovač, a student at the Faculty of Arts, University of Maribor, Slovenia, as part of her master’s thesis, showed that Roma students in Prekmurje and Dolenjska feel comfortable in primary school. Discrimination and stereotypes are still present, but Roma students mostly describe school relations as good.
