Roma in Europe

A reportage on Ukrainian media in Slovakia – in Košice in the Lunik IX neighbourhood – and a reflection of Roma in Europe. What is positive is that they say that the integration of Roma is more of a problem of the majority than of the Roma. What is less so is that they say idiocies (that Roma lived in tent prior to the creation of the “vertical” ghettoes) and that they push a whole series of stereotypes.

A young researcher from Göttingen in Germany has investigated the Swiss Federal Commission against Racism and comes out with a scathing review, saying Switzerland turns a blind eye on institutional racism and that the commission is actually fuelling it.

A judge in Fribourg (Switzerland) dismissed the complaint against racism that was lodged against 5 professional associations (three from Fribourg, two overall from Switzerland) who had advertised last year in the papers against giving work to Travellers and Roma. In these pamphlets, travellers and Roma were accused of shoddy work and practises, if not of outright fraud.
This highlights the difficulty in Switzerland to win such cases.

A really shocking article from Bosnia. Residents from Mostar are protesting because “many” Roma are coming to Mostar, are stealing, sexually harassing women, burning tires, and generally attacking inhabitants.
Well … Let’s not forget that these brave Bosnians were all in agreement to ethnically cleanse Roma out of their respective regions. As a result, they effectively deprived most Roma of their homes and of a living.
