Italy: More than 1’000 Rroma Threatened with Expulsion

More than 1’300 Rroma in Neaple are threatened with expulsions. Their camp will be closed shortly and the municipality will re-lodge only 200 of them.
Same story as in Rome… Who profits from these camps? Same corruption, same unwillingness to find a solution.

A Play on Rroma

Drom, a theatre play on Rroma born from a collaboration between Rroma and non-Rroma, is focusing on the road from Novi-Sad to Berlin as a metaphor for the route for escaping poverty and discrimination in the Balkan.
The play will be presented in Budapest in April.

A Rroma family (clan according to the press) has been using the so-called “grand children” trick to defraud elederly people of quite a bit of money. The family is from Poland and is “thought” to have invented this trick.
According to the police, the have defrauded elderly people of up to a billion Euro…
Bad for all of us. But also bad that the ethnicity is being put forward here. And a whole bunch of other stereotypes. Shame on this.

Slovakia: Blatant Racism

Moldava nad Bodvou – the National Criminal Investigator Agency (Naka) indicted one person for a misdemeanour for disorderly conduct committed with a racial motive. According to the Police: “On March 5, 2017 in the area of the football stadium in Moldava nad Bodvou the accused Paul P., drunk, did commit gross indecency against citizens of Roma ethnicity. The accused fired several shots in the air from a gas gun and shouted: you should be shot, you need only Hitler”…
At least he was arrested…

An NGO officially disagrees with a judgement of court stating that the principal of a school in Ostrava-Muglinova discriminated against two Rroma pupils…
Bad enough that this happened, good that the court agreed, it is even more complicated. The NGO is an organisation that has been part for a long time in Rroma education and is funded in part by the Open Society Foundations. They say there is no discrimination, just a row on education.

The former Slovak government Roma proxy, Peter Pollak, said that the current positive strategies being put forward by his successor Abel Ravasz will not work as long as discrimination remains the norm in the country.
