The Huffington post posted an article on refugees from the Balkan, with five issues that Europe needs to tackle if they ever want to get migration under control. Among these: Discrimination against Rroma in several Balkan Countries.
Two Rroma families were denied boarding a flight to Canada. Canada is continuing its restrictive policy of screenings prior to boarding planes with that destination.

In view of the mounting evidence of discrimination against Rroma in Hungary, Canada is accepting more asylum applications from Hungarian Rroma.

A lawyer from Luxembourg, Gaston Vogel recently wrote a letter to the municipality protesting against beggars whom he qualified as “disgusting” and “insolent”, regretting that “nobody deals with this scum” (see second article listed below).
A Luxembourg citizen staged a protest action against these comments by symbolically begging in the city as an act of solidarity. Well done!
Canadian immigration officials are screening passengers departing to Canada at the Budapest airport, and deny entry to anyone presumed to be Rrom.
This is definitively not acceptable!
Some populists miss no occasion to be populist, prejudiced, racist, and spread idiotic information. This is the case here with Breitbart, a conservative US based news Network. Based on a fight between two Romanian Rroma families in Essen Germany, and the fact that a German newspaper also cited “Arabs” and criminals in the report, Breitbart makes a headline of criminal Gypsy and Arab gangs.
One should say STOP RACISM and START THINKING! This is not journalism, this is actual idiocy. It has to stop.
A street fight in Essen between two Rroma groups – probably from Romania, degenerated into a real street battle involving up to over 1’000 people according to police source. Thses fights continued later on.
This has given opportunity to several papers to equate all Rroma with criminal and to “throw in” an ounce of “criminal Arabs” into the fray to give a view that all migrants are surely criminals and that one needs to get rid to them.
Let’s call this by it’s name: This is POPULISM and RACISM.

In Crimea and in the Dombass (where the new autonomous region is being carved out), human rights for minorities, for Tatars and Rroma, but also for LGBT and religious minorities are under threat. There is an increased discrimination against them, something we can testify for the Rroma in that region.
Chilling report on Italy and on some of the proposed measures of mayors to prevent refugees, and of course Rroma, from settling in their towns. Bulldozing camps, burning down empty houses, or even building a wall around the town.

Nils Muižnieks, the Council of Europe’s Commissioner for Human Rights, warned against the modern racism against Rroma while at the commemorations of the Rroma Holocaust. We cannot but agree with him here.
In the article, the term of “Porajmos” is used. This term has often been put in conjunction with the Rroma Holocaust. Actually, it means a sexual rape, and is only understood in some Vlax dialects. This term should not be used at all in this context.
A poster campaign by a far right group in the Stockholm’s subway is shocking. It re-iterates the usual stereotypes of forced begging, organised criminality, etc. Outrage was also directed at the subway authorities that allowed these posters to be hung.
SHAME!
On the Rroma and Sinti Holocaust Remembrance Day, Europe’s top human right official emphasised the plight faced by many Rroma in Europe to this day with continuing discrimination. This needs to change!
