Switzerland just took over the chairmanship of the Holocaust Remembrance Alliance. The committee in charge also includes Rroma organisations.

The German state of Thürigen followed the lead of other German regions and now protects the graves of Rroma and Sinti holocaust victims. Many of thé families of these victims cannot afford the yearly fee and thus according to German customs, the graves would have been removed 25 years after the death of the person.
Good that those who survived the holocaust can rest in peace.

Robert Kirchhoff was born in 1968 in Nitra and studied documentary production and dramaturgy at the Academy of Performing Arts in Bratislava. He is a film director, screenwriter, producer, and cameraman, and has had a number of films that have won awards at domestic and foreign festivals. Amongst others, he made documentaries Hey, Slovaks !, Ghost in the Machine, The Case Cervanová, etc. and was a producer and co-producer of films like Blind Loves Disease of the Third Power, in Ash.
From 2003 to 2016, he has been preparing a documentary on the Holocaust of Roma and Sinti called A “Hole in the Head”, which will have its premier in March 2017. He has interviewed many survivors of the Holocaust and recorded their fate.

Back and forth between the Hungarian government and Rroma in the case of the closure of the Csepel Rroma Holocaust Centre. According to a Rroma representative, the government tried to pressure them not to make a press conference and accused the centre of irregularities, especially concerning wages and social contributions.

A bit of an outcry in Austria after a giant of the food industry stated it wanted to open a meat factory for processing pork on the site of a former Nazi camp where Rroma and Jews were interned. In addition, the former owners of the land claimed they were never received any compensation for the land that was seized.

A new association for Rroma and Sinti in Augsburg has been created and is being officially presented at the town hall. The organisation wants to promote the culture, combat discrimination and stereotypes, and remember the victims of the Holocaust.

The movie on Django Reinhard’s life opened at the Berlin Film festival, with some mixed critiques. During the opening, Rroma and the Holocaust were prominently cited, and comparisons with current times were made.

The Ditch government sets over 8 Mio EUR for a Dutch Holocaust Museum and Memorial commemorating the ca. 102’000 Jews, Rroma and Sinti who were murdered in that country during World War Two.

This year, Jews again boycotted the Croatian commemorations of the Holocaust. Several Rroma organisations too, although several other did attend.
An explanation of why this boycott: The history is being quietly rewritten in Croatia, and the crimes of the Ustasha and the murders they committed are being retouched.
Rroma and Jews were their victims in camps such as the infamous Jasenovac.
