The Elie Wiesel Institute condemned the nomination of a Romanian journalist, Oana Stanciulescu, to the board of national television. She condemned the law that makes it a criminal offence to deny the Holocaust. Jews and Rroma were victims of the Holocaust in Romania…

Slovakia: Protests against Kotleba

Two Slovak MPs wore badges that looked similar to the yellow star worn by Jews during Nazi times to remind the country and protest against the party of Kotleba who is extreme right and pro-WWII Slovak leader. This party is extreme in its views of Rroma.

One of the really least researched, most populist articles in the Swiss press in a long time. Low concentration of facts and logic, high populist overtones.

Not acceptable. And by the way, the results of the study (see second article) are not acceptable either.

60 Years Ago

A commemoration of a judgement by Germany highest court 60 years ago. On January 7th, 1956, Germany highest court ruled that Rroma and Sint were not persecuted on racial grounds by Nazi Germany and thus were not entitled to reparations.

This is new and really welcome! A Jewish view that Jews and Rroma (including of course Sinti) were singled out and are somehow therefore related. This is definitively new and good, as not so long ago, this was definitively not so.

Not so good is that the interpretation of Gadžo is not quite to the point, and that the historical view is very much Western European and not European …

 

Planned Remembrance of Deportation

Berlin Marzahn, is planning to commemorate the creation, 80 ago in 2016 of the internment camp for Rroma and Sinti. This is where the Rroma Holocaust started.
