A round table was held on Slovenian TV  on the topic of Roma. The themes were how to provide Roma with drinking water, solve the problem of ownership and use of the land they live on, and better integrate them into the majority population? Present were the president of the forum of Roma councillors, Darko Rudaš, the mayor of Ribnica, Samo Pogorelc, and Olivera Mirković, who has been working with Roma children in Kerinove Grmo for decades.

The president of the Roma Foundation of Europe is appealing politicians to involve Roma in upcoming European elections. He says there are more Roma in Europe than citizen of several smaller European countries, and that in several places, they make 10% of the population.

Montenegro and Roma

A survey was conducted in the second half of October and the first half of November last year by the NGO “Association for the Support of Roma and Egyptians” in the Montenegro town of Berane. The aim was to understand the interactions of the Roma and general population. Based on a very limited sample of

200 respondents of the majority population and 148 respondents of the Roma population.

Out of 200 surveyed citizens of Beran, 112 of them answered that they or someone close to them had as a close friend a member of the RE population, or 56 percent, while 88 survey participants among the local population, or 44 percent, answered negatively to this question.
