An article on what happens when you try to set up a place where travellers can stay. This is Ireland, but could be anywhere, unfortunately.

An article on what happens when you try to set up a place where travellers can stay. This is Ireland, but could be anywhere, unfortunately.
Two articles on the 12 millions potential terrorists, at least according to the (potentially misquoted) Hungarian minister.
When will the EU do SOMETHING?
Hungary’s minister of justice Laszlo Trocsanyi sayd on Monday that 12 million Rroma could potentially be joining ISIS (IS/Daech) … If they do so, it would be because they are being discriminated against. But … Rroma never did violence, bombs, and terrorism. There are Rroma Muslims, but they certainly are not radicals. This is purely populism to justify exclusion, segregation, and discrimination.
The minister later recanted, showing that on top of a lack of intellectual logic, he is not really courageous about his opinions.
DO WE HAVE TO LISTEN TO THIS???
Please protest!
The “Cirque Romanes” in Paris has been the subject of repeated attacks an thefts in the last few months. An appeal to defend them has been signed by more than 8’000 people
Please sign too!
An evening on the subject of Rroma, refugees, migratioins, and pre-conceptions and prejudices. Hamze Bytyci, actor and Rroma activist as well as many other people have animated this evening with the public.
Apparently, there is a crime wave in Germany due to the migrants and especially to the Rroma. The news is old, and is not particularly smart. In fact, this is another instance of Daft Journalism. And this in the Israeli Press …
Politis, a French paper, is stating that Rroma are stigmatised in France by the press and politicians. They are unfortunately right.
The City of Biel / Bienne in the Swiss Jura is trying to prevent “foreign” Travellers, i.e. Rroma from neighbouring countries to stop there on so-called transit camps. This is the result of political activism from the Swiss Jenische (Travellers), and this, is spite of the fact that these foreign Rroma have been coming regularly every year for decades.
SHAME!
The French Press is getting confused … They tend to indiscriminately name Rroma, Manouches, Gitans, as well as autochthonous travellers “Gens du Voyage” which is some cases leads to totally absurd descriptions of “sedentary travellers” etc. All this instead of naming things as they are: Rroma – composed of 40 or so different groups among which the Sinti, but also Lovara, Kalderasha, Manouches (French Sinti), Kale (called Gitans in France), and local travellers which have nothing culturally to do with Rroma. What is so difficult here????
The council of Europe human rights’ watchdog, Niels Mužnieks slammed Slovakia and the Czech Republic for the segregation and discriminations in schools for Rroma. These countries are continuing to place Rroma children in “special schools”, often for mentally disabled children. They also criticised the physical violence against Rroma by the police in Slovakai as well as other segregating and discriminating actions in those countries.
Shame on them!
Seems that refugees are less than welcome nowadays. Shame! While it would be nice to be in a perfect world where no one wants to move, refugees and migrants have brought us the culture we live in. Let’s not forget that Germans are migrants … At least from a roman point of view!
An essay on the concept of ethnically “clean” nations: A good one, albeit forgetting that this concept is a 18th century idea that was realised in the 19th, and that we are now two centuries later …
The Council of Europe said that the Czech and Slovak Republics are not doing enough on Rroma and gay rights. Clearly so – but one should say that while there are gays in all minorities, the ethnic discrimination is clearly one of the top issues in those countries.
In spite of the safe country “label”, the discrimination and persecutions of Rroma in the Balkans is now being recognised! About time!!!
An interview on the extreme right in Germany.
Scary …
France’s prime minister Valls will not be judged for his statements on Rroma. Seems that justice tends to avoid that topic.
SHAME!
The Rroma circus. “Cirque Romanes” in Paris, seems not exactly popular in the Paris suburbs where it has been located for ages. They are the victims of thefts and depredations on a nearly daily basis.
What is going on?
The Council of Europe is increasingly worried by the rise of racism in Germany. The article cites the press as one of the responsible actors in this situation, at least in the case of Rroma.
Worthy read!
A discussion on prejudices and stereotypes on Rroma.
New official Turkish documents are reported to include a tag identifying minorities. Attention, Roum means Greek here. Rroma are simple in the bag of “others”. Nevertheless, this is not acceptable.
