According to research by domestic and international organizations, the biggest problems Roma women face are insufficient education, gender equality and frequent discrimination in the family and society. These difficulties, which the Roma people have been facing for decades, can only be solved by the association and joint action of young, educated and charismatic women – said Živana Živanović, expert associate of the provincial secretariat for education and member of the municipal council in charge of social policy, youth and sports in the municipality of Sremski Karlovci.

Yeniche, Sinti and Roma are entitled to camping sites, which are rare in the Lake Zurich region. The site in Meilen is now to be renovated and expanded. Specifically, ten parking spaces are to be created. Ten is not much when one knows that there are often up to 50 caravans underway.

The recent condemnation of the extreme right Bulgarian VMRO-Bulgarian National Movement (VMRO-BND)was welcome news. However, the fine of 1’000 BGL (roughly 550 EUR) was not really high, and the party, while ordered not to post any further discriminating statements on Roma, was not ordered to erase previous posts and pages.

The person behind the condemnation, Liliana Kovacheva, who filed the original complain, is continuing her fight.
