Exhibition on Rroma Holocaust

An exhibition on the Holocaust of Rroma in Bohemia and other Czech lands is opening this week. Good one speaks about it, as the Czech lands were nearly totally cleaned of Rroma in World War Two. And not all by German Nazis, by far not.

The Czech education ministry who was stated a violating the children human’s rights filed a complaint with the police. The Czech prosecutor found no reason to push for an indictment but nevertheless slammed the report …

Czech Republic, Refugees, and History

Upon the visit of Bohuslav Sobotka, the Czech Prime Minister, some thoughts as to why the Czechs are so much against refugees (and against Rroma). Interesting read but sad… And that country is very much racist when it comes to Rroma.

First Rrom in UK Police

First Rrom in UK Police

Petr Torak, a Rrom of Slovak or Czech origin is allegedly the first serving Rrom police officer in the UK. Not bad, when one remembers that the police there is quite racist (see all articles on the MET and their facebook postings).

Rroma Women and the Balkans

Rroma Women and the Balkans

An article on Rroma women in the Balkans. Starts quite badly, as the picture in the headlines depicts a woman prostitute and drug addict in Serbia – we reported on this article a while ago. Then it gets worse … “The Roma identity generally refers to a traditionally nomadic ethnic group, with various linguistic dialects and many sub-groups, living mostly in Europe” Full stereotypes. 99.9% of Rroma, especially in the Balkan were always sedentary (except for their migration from India, but then what to say about Germans J). While the article is right about the discrimination, it is also wrong on the generalisation (and on the numbers). It also presents sex trafficking and exploitation as Rroma issues which it is not, it is a poverty issue. On the other hand (and not in the Balkans, it presents the sterilisation issue in the Czech Republic, and other facts that are quite correct.

The Result: LOTS OF STEREOTYPES, a few facts, and lots of generalisations.

Integration in the Czech Republic

Published by:

According to a recent report, half of Czech Rroma are not integrated in that country. How they arrived at those numbers (it is always difficult to know how many Rroma there are), fact is, the Czech Republic is a very difficult place for Rroma.

What’s the Difference Between a Funeral and Refugees …

Apparently, there is little differences between a Rroma funeral and a bunch of refugees, at least in the Czech Republic where several people called the police …

Council of Europe Slams Czechs and Slovaks for Segregation and Discrimination

The council of Europe human rights’ watchdog, Niels Mužnieks slammed Slovakia and the Czech Republic for the segregation and discriminations in schools for Rroma. These countries are continuing to place Rroma children in “special schools”, often for mentally disabled children. They also criticised the physical violence against Rroma by the police in Slovakai as well as other segregating and discriminating actions in those countries.

Shame on them!

Czech and Slovaks on Rroma Rights

Czech and Slovaks on Rroma Rights

The Council of Europe said that the Czech and Slovak Republics are not doing enough on Rroma and gay rights. Clearly so – but one should say that while there are gays in all minorities, the ethnic discrimination is clearly one of the top issues in those countries.
