According to statistics, 80’000 Roma live in the westernmost region of the Ukraine that used to be part of the K&K empire. As with all official statistics on Roma, this means that at least 80’000 Roma live there.

A Roma settlement in the Ukraine is making the headlines. Situated close to the Romanian border, the village of Podvinogradov has a collection of rich Roma mansions os a taste similar to the one across the border.

Four people are under house arrest in Lviv for the murder against a Rom last June. This definitively seems mild in comparison of the crime. Several of the perpetrators are minors and go to school. They also only face mild penalties (3 to 7 years of jail).

The ultra-nationalist movement C14 did it again: This time they “cleaned” the Kiev main railway station of Roma.
Bad.
But what is worse, is that effectively most people will applaud, as the Roma in the railway station were camping there, begging and were often accused of stealing.

Bad news in the Ukrainian press. Five Roma have beaten two youngsters in Uzhgorod in Western Ukraine. Apparently for no reason. The fight was caught on video.

An explosive device was thrown into the flat of Sergei Mazur, the coordinator of the extreme nationalist party C14 who triggered pogroms against Roma and who is under house arrest.

Bad press on Roma – according to articles in several newspapers, following a row among Roma squatters in a derelict house in Kiev, one person was killed.
