Litzmannstadt Ghetto

An article about the tragic fate of the Roma in the Litzmannstadt Ghetto. The Roma part of the Ghetto was liquidated 76 years ago. Many of the Roma there came from the Austrian Burgenland.

Austria: Reassurances

It is fairly bad if the president of a country feels obliged to reassure Holocaust survivors that they don’t risk anything… This is what happened in Austria, on the background of an Austrian interior minister who suggested to “concentrate” refugees in camps.

Stolpersteine in Salzburg

A report on the “Stolpersteine” in Salzburg, the small stones on the pavement commemorating the victims of the Holocaust. In Salzburg, there are a dozen of stones devoted to Roma, even though they were the largest victim group in that city.
Needless to say, these memorials are still controversial in Austria.

Austria and the Holocaust

An interesting article from the catholic church about the Roma victims of the Holocaust in the Diocese of Eisenstadt in the Easern part of the country. There, the camp of Lackenbach had more than 4’000 local Roma who were doing forced labour in appalling conditions. Many more were simply sent to death camps.

An association “Phurdo” has turned itself in Salzburg into a centre for Rroma and into a bridge between Rroma, Sinti and the general population. It is now being funded by the city.

Did they ask the thieves for a racial attestation?

Austria, Meat Factory, and a KZ

A bit of an outcry in Austria after a giant of the food industry stated it wanted to open a meat factory for processing pork on the site of a former Nazi camp where Rroma and Jews were interned. In addition, the former owners of the land claimed they were never received any compensation for the land that was seized.
Seems to be a K&K thing …
